Because of this he comes into contact with Itzhak Stern, a Jew who for Madritsch, another manufacturer, is working. Oskar may well find with Stern and they often talk about the war and the situation in which Jews are located. Maybe the idea brought him on as much as possible Itzhak Jews to help it survive. 1. Give a description of the main character. Describe at least 3 important character traits and illustrate them with examples from the book. Explain if and how the main character changes over the course of the novel. Use at least 200 words.

The main character is Oskar Schindler, the somewhat dodgy but charming manufacturer that helps hundreds of Polish Jews get through World War II. Oskar is very fond of his fellow man, maybe this has something to do with his youth. His father left his mother and this he could not contain. In many ways, he seems to be on his father; He would like to luxury living, drink a lot and not do too much. Despite that he best lazy comes in the time of the war something from his hands, this is not useful for the Nazis, but that can give him don't care. He is seemingly an attractive man because he has different relationships; He is married to Emilie Schindler, he has a relationship with his Secretary Victoria Klonowska and he also had a relationship with another woman, Ingrid. In this respect he seems back on his father, who also had multiple relationships at the same time. Oskar Schindler does not really change over the course of the novel. He is an intelligent man with big dreams. His relationship with Emilie is the better relationship of the two. Ingrid is a second choice. Oskar Schindler will try his best to succeed in life.

  1. Give a short description of three other characters. Explain their relationship to the main character.

Leopold Pfefferberg had not such a large role in the film, so I know from him almost everything from what the book told me. He went to the black market for Oskar and bought there things in which Oskar Nazis could bribe. He was friends with Oskar and came later also in his camp and factory, which has been his salvation. He is also responsible for the creation of the book, as he has told many things and him has persuaded Keneally writing the book. He has also brought in contact with other surviving Schindlerjuden Keneally.

Emilie Schindler is the wife of Oskar, but does not live with him in Cracow, she's remained with her family when he was going. She comes to visit every now and then and know that Oskar affaires has but does nothing with it. In Brinnlitz she lives back Oskar and she helps him by the Jews to take care of and tasty soup.

Victoria Klonowska is one of the mistresses of Oskar and often helps him out of jail by his contacts. She has no significant role.

  1. When and where does the story take place and what is the function of time and place in the novel?

The story is set in the second world war, so from 1939-1945. You know this because the date is called at various times. Most of the story takes place in Poland, in and around the plant and the adjoining camp of Oskar in Cracow and Brinnlitz.

  1. Does the novel have an open ending or not? Why do you think so?

In my opinion it is not an open ending. It is a fairly uplifting ending, with Schindler's workers surviving the war, and Oskar breaking down in tears at the enormity of what's gone on.

  1. Describe the structure of the novel.

It has various points, but they all fit pretty well. I think it is very well built. It goes from ideas, to really make them truth.

  1. Explain the title of the novel.

The title is ' Schinder's List ', but the book is also often called Schindler's Ark. The title Schindler's List is easy to explain; it comes from the portion of the book in which Oskar a list goes on drafting of all Jews who are allowed to camp Brinnlitz. All Jews want with Oskar with it because then they know that they are well cared for and they have the best chance to stay alive. You can also easily derive the title Schindler's Ark. Everyone wants to be on the ' ark ' of Oskar. This is the only way to stay alive.

  1. Explain the role the theme ‘’War’’ plays in this novel. Use at least 150 words.

Schindler's Ark is fully based on World War II, so the role of the theme '' War '' is pretty obvious. World War II was from 1939 until 1945, a pretty long time. The story is based on those six years of war. In the story is retold the life of Schindler. His story is so special because the second world war has left a great impression. It is important that people know what happened in that period, the book aims to make this clear. The Netherlands in World War II is one of the most beloved book topics. Overall, it is clear what happened in the second world war. In the book they zoom in a lot on the less well-known pieces of the war, that makes the book special. So, all in all it matched up great with the theme ‘’War’’. That is the reason why I chose for this book.

  1. Give your opinion about the novel and support it with arguments. Use at least 150 words.

My first impression was actually based on the movie because I had seen it once already and I liked it very much. I was expecting just such a gripping story as the movie. This struck me a little actually against; It is all very factual, without real emotions. And the story of the film is sometimes a bit different from that of the book, so I went in the film after how it was and how it is told in the book. Sometimes it was a bit confusing.  I found the language sometimes a bit difficult and some details were so insignificant that it was boring to read. Furthermore, it was a good book. I liked it for the most part and I can suggest the book for people who like World War II books. So, all in all it was a good book, sometimes boring but a very good book for people who like War books.
