D         Summary or essay / letter about the story (min. 250 words).

In your piece, make sure you dig a bit deeper: motives, themes, development, links to ‘real life’. Don’t be superficial!

Romeo is in love with Rosaline. His cousins wants him to forget Rosaline so they take him to a ball from the Capulets. There he meets Juliet. He instantly falls in love with her and she with him. The problem is that Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. These houses are in a big fight, they can’t love each other. And there is a second problem. The Capulets have found a future husband for Juliet. His name is Paris and he dances with Juliet on the ball. Tybalt sees Romeo on the feast and he wants to kill Romeo, but Capulet holds him back. Romeo and Juliet talks a lot and kisses each other. He goes away and they meet again on the balcony of Juliet. They plan to marry the next day.

The friar agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, because he thinks the fight can be over. Romeo goes to the nurse and they make plans for the wedding and wedding night. Romeo will climb up the balcony with a rope ladder. The nurse tells the plans to Juliet. Both go to the church and friar Lawrence marries them. After that Romeo is with his nephews Mercutio and Benvolio. They are joking around, but then Tybalt comes. Romeo doesn’t want to fight him, because they are family know. Mercutio fights with Tybalt, but he is slain. Romeo takes revenge and kills Tybalt. The prince banishes Romeo for this. Romeo goes to Juliet and they have a goodbye night. Romeo goes to Mantua.

The wedding with Paris is planned, because Juliet is still very sad because of the dead of Tybalt (not really, she is sad because of the banishment from Romeo). The wedding is planned on Thursday.

Juliet tells her parents that she will not marry Paris. Her parents become very angry. Her father says that she isn’t his daughter anymore if she does not marry Paris. The nurse says that Juliet can marry Paris better. Maybe this second marriage will be nicer then the first. Juliet goes to the friar to ask him for help. The friar gives her a poison. The poison makes her sleep for … hours. The marriage is planned on Wednesday. So Juliet takes the poison that night.

The Capulets think Juliet is dead. They lie her in the tomb. Romeo hears that Juliet is dead and he plans to kill himself on the side of Juliet. He buys a poison to kill himself. Friar hears that Romeo didn’t get the message. He goes to the tomb so Juliet doesn’t wake alone. Paris is in the tomb to say goodbye to Juliet. Romeo came in and Paris hides. Paris thinks Romeo will do something to Juliet so he begins a fight. Romeo kills Paris and laid him next to Juliet in the tomb. Romeo kills himself. The friar arrives and sees the two men dead on the ground. Juliet awoke. There is a noise so the friar goes away. Juliet kills herself with the knife of Romeo.

The guards come to the tomb. The prince, the Capulets and the Montagues were called. The friar tells what happened. The prince says the families are to blame for this. Than they finally make peace.

Good luck!
