William Gerald Golding was born in St. Columb Minor (Cornwall) in 1911 and died in 1993.
He started writing at the age of 7 but he first studied science and english like his parents told him.
During his study Golding didn’t stop writing poetry and short story’s. After his study Golding worked in Londen where he started writing plays and in 1939 he became an English teacher at the Bishop Wordsworth’s School. In the Second World war he serviced the navy.
In many of Golding books he unveiled the dark sides of the human spirit when isolated individuals or small groups are placed in extreme situations. This is based on the things he saw in the Second World war and as a schoolteacher.
Because the success of “lord of the Flies” Golding was able to quit his job and write fulltime.
"Lord of the Flies" is a future-fiction novel, because the author sets his story somewhere in an imagined future. "Lord of the Flies" takes place while an atomic war is going on.
Golding also wrote The Intersitors, Free Fall, The Double Tongue, the play The Brass Butterfly and way more.

b. Good and bad aspects of the book
What I liked about the novel is that sometimes you see the story from the perspective of Ralph. Because of that you get a very good view about how he feels an you can imagine the island very clearly.
I liked that there were many characters. In the begin it is a bit hard to follow al the different characters but after a while you get to know them all well. They show many different sides of the personality of each character. Because of this you get a very clear view of what they are like.
I think the plot is not very realistic. It is a bit like a fairytale way to say, to live happily ever after. I think it is more realistic if they died all one by one of hunger or because of killing each other.
I think the message that the author wants to give is that you never now how people react to each other in an other environment. I think this is a very interesting subject. The genre is not very common which makes it very special.
Most of the time the story is told by a narrator. Sometimes there are dialogues in the novel and a couple of times you see it from Ralph’s perspective. Because of this it doesn’t get boring.
4. Conclusion
4a final opinion
In the end I can say that I liked this book very much. I didn’t get bored because of the many different characters and the many things that happened like piggy falling of a cliff or when Ralph’s stealing piggy’s glasses back.
A nice thing about this subject is that is makes you think what you would have done if you crashed at a uninhabited island.
The language that is used witch was fairly easy so you didn’t have to translate every single world. Because of this you get really involved with the story.
I would advise you to read this book. It is very thrilling and a lot of things happen. I didn’t get bored at all. I also liked the subject a lot and it is one of his kind. So pick up the book and go read
