Onderdeel 1: Title: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Author: J.K. Rowling. Publisher: Bloomsbury. Year: 1997
Chapters: 17
Pages: 223 Short summary : 1 Harry Potter’s parents were great wizards but died by Voldemort when Harry was only one year old. 2 Harry Potter didn’t had any family left except is uncle, aunt and spoilt nephew (Mr and Mrs Dursley and their son Dudley) and that’s why he spend his time (till he was 11) by the Dursley’s. 3 The Dursley’s treated him not right and they didn’t told him about his parent. 4 On Harry’s 11th birthday somebody send him a letter (no one ever did before) and when Harry would open it, Mr Dursley grabbed it out of Harry’s hand. The letter was an invitation to come on the school for Witchcraft and Wizardry (called Hogwarts) 5 The Dursleys kept ignoring the letters but Harry was finally take by a huge man to Hogwarts. 6 At Hogwarts Harry was very popular because he was known by everyone as the boy who defeated the legendary bad wizard Voldemort. 7 Harry met new people, teachers and unfortunately a enemy (Malroy). He found out more about his parents, and also about something else: the Philosopher’s Stone. 8 The Philosopher’s Stone (hidden and protected in Hogwarts) is a mighty stone that makes you stop ever dying. Harry and his best friends thought a was about to steal the stone and the three friends are going for research. 9 With their research they found out that their teacher Snape must be the ‘bad guy’. After their exams they accidentally found out that Snape is about to steal the Stone the night after their exams. 10 Harry came up with the idea to steal the stone before Snape could. When he reached the stone, he discovered that not Snape was stealing the Stone but Voldemort was. At least they had a wizard-fight, and Harry (with help of the principal Dumbeldore) won and saved the school. 311 words Onderdeel 2: A) I have looked for 3 fragments about how Harry look: -Harry had a thin face, knobbly knees, black hair and bright-green eyes. (page 27). -He wore round glasses held together with a lot of Sellotape because of all the times Dudley had punched him on the nose (page 27). -The only thing Harry liked about his own appearance was a very thin scar on his forehead which was shaped like a bolt of lightning (page 27). This piece of text shows you that Harry is shy but can stand up for himself and for his friends. -‘’Oh, this is Crabbe and this is Goyle,‘ said the pale boy carelessly, noticing where Harry was looking. ‘And my name’s Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.’ Ron gave a slight cough, which might have been hiding a snigger. Draco Malfoy looked at him. ‘Think my name’s funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles and more children than they can afford.’ He turned back to Harry. ‘You’ll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potter. You don’t want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.’ He held out his hand to shake Harry’s, but Harry didn’t take it. ‘I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks,’ he said coolly.’ (page 120). In the next fragment you can see Harry is not arrogant: ‘It was dinner time. Harry had just finished telling Ron what had happened when he’d left the grounds with Professor McGonagall. Ron had a piece of steak-and-kidney pie halfway to his mouth, but he’d forgotten all about it. ‘Seeker?’ he said. ‘But first-years never –you must be the youngest house player about-’ ‘-a century,’ sied Harry, shoveling pie into his mouth. He felt particularly hungry after the excitement of the afternoon. ‘Wood told me.’ Ron was so amazed, so impressed, he just sat and gaped at Harry. ‘I start training next week,’ said Harry. ‘Only don’t tell anyone, all right?’ (page 123-124) B) Ik heb de opdracht een beetje anders gedaan. Ik denk dat ik zo ook duidelijk heb weergegeven hoe Harry is. 386 words
Onderdeel 3 A) ‘You drink that,’ said Harry. ‘No, listen – get back and get Ron – grab brooms from the flying key room, they’ll get you out of the trapdoor and past Fluffy – go straight to the owlery and send Hedwig to Dumbledore, we need him. I might be able to hold Snape off for a while, but I’m no match for him really.’ ‘But Harry – what if You-Know-Who’s with him?’’Well – I was lucky once, wasn’t I?’ said Harry, pointing at his scar. ‘I might get lucky again’ Hermiones’s lip trembled and she suddenly dashed at Harry and threw her arms around him. ‘Hermione!’ ‘Harry –You’re a great wizard, you know.’ ‘I’m not as good as you,’ said Harry, very embarressed, as she let go of him.’ (page 209).
