Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The Goblet of fire is the object who choses champion of each school for the Triwizard Tournament. Thanks to the Goblet Harry is in the tournament. The Goblet of fire is the main object of the story.
The main Theme:
The main theme is magic. The biggest part of the book takes place on Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A school were you can learn to use magic.
The beginning and ending:
In the beginning, Harry is staying during the holidays with his aunt an uncle; counting the days he could go back to Hogwarts,
At the end Harry goes back to his aunt and uncle for the next holiday, but after a strange schoolyear, with weird thing happening.
The story before part 4:
Harry Potter is a 14 year old boy who studies on ‘Hogwarts’ a wizard school. He never knew he was a wizard, until his 10th birthday. A man named Hagrid told him, he was a wizar and from that moment his life has entirely changed.
He has got some friends, Ron Weasly and Hermoine Granger, and he was happier than ever before.
The story of part 4:
It all begins, as always, with the summer holiday, Harry lived with his aunt Petunia and his uncle Vernon Dursley. Vernon and Petunia also had a son; Dudley. They never payed any attention on Harry, he was a wizzard and they hated every thing that deviated of the normal. So Harry is not very happy over there, he is counting every day, the day until he can go back to Hogwarts.
One day, Harry’s best friend Ron called. He asked if Harry liked to join him to the Quidditch World Cup. Of course Harry would like that, so Ron and his father and two brothers, Fred and George picked him up.
Harry first slept one night at Ron house, also called ‘the Burrow’. His friend Hermoine has come there to. Next morning the whole Weasly family and Harry and Hermoine went to the World Cup stadium by Portkey (an object wich moves people in no time from one place to another).
The match was between Ireland and Bulgaria. After a couple of hours, Ireland won.
That night happened terrible things, a group of Deatheaters (partisans of Lord Voldemort, a very bad wizzard) were teasin muggles (people who cannot work magic) and stroke tents in fire.
Harry and his friend had to escape into the bunch and when they stand there, waiting for help, they heard a man saying a spel. And when they looked up in the sky the saw a huge skull with a snake as a tongue, made of little emerald stars. And when this happened everybody began to scream louder and run faster.
Harry doesn’t get why everyone screams so loud; it’s just a skull. But Hermoine explained that it was the sign of Voldemort, he put the sign in the air every time when he killed someone.
The next day they left the camping site and went back to home. Mrs. Weasly was very worried and also very happy nothing happened with one of them.
They were staying a few day more in ‘The Burrow’, buying new school books and other stuff they needed for the new year.
Then the holiday ended and everyone had to go back to school again. They were driving with taxi’s and went to the trainstation in London, platform 9 ¾. They got into the hogwarts express and get to start for the trip to Hogwarts.
When they arrived at school, they met Hagrid, a friend of them.
That evening, during the start-of-term feast, they’ve heard very great news. The Triwizard Tournament will be taking place on Hogwarts.
The Triwizard Tournament is a game between Europes largest wizzard school: Durmstrag, Beauxbatons and Hogwarts. In the tournament, every school gets his own champion who would stride against each other, in three tasks.
Everyone is very excited to hear this news and want to try to be in with it. But because of the large amount of wounded people and even deaths, you have to be 17 years or older to be in with it.
At the and of the feast, a person came in to the Great Hall. Mad-eye Moody, a man with a lot of scars and with one (normal) white eye and the other, electric blue. Dumbledore, the headmaster told them that Moody the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher is.
They next day the lessons started. They had Care of Magical Creatures with Hagrid, Herboloy with Professor Sprout and double Divination with professor Trelawney.
Later that day Harry met his enemy Draco Malfoy, with who he has an argument and when Harry turned arround Malfoy slapped him in the face. But professor Moody saw that and he became very angry and turned Malfoy into a ferret and bounced him on the floor. From that moment Ron really wants to have his first lesson with Moody, and his dreams became true.
Next Thursday they had theire first lesson with Moody and they started with a very interesting lesson: The Unforgivable Curses. These are a few curses, Moody told the class, wich the Ministry of Magic prohibited. But Moody tried all of the three curses on a few spiders, to show the class the impact it has. The first curse he showed was the Imperius Curse, with that curse you can have total control of a person. The next curse that he treated was the Cruciatus curse, a curse wich tortures a person very badly. And the last one was Avada Kedavra, wich means death to the victim, no one had resist that curse, but Harry, said Moody.
They had a few days of school and finaly the students of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang would arrived at Hogwarts. All the Hogwarts students were waiting outside the castle for the student from the other schools.
After a while they saw a big flying ‘thing’ in the air, when it came closer they saw it was a giant carriage drawn by giant horses. The students of Beauxbatons were arrived with their headmaster Madame Mallemour.
Later, in the lake a big ship came up from the water, containing the students of Durmstrang with their headmaster, Karkaroff.
All students, from Hogwarts and the others, went inside the castle for a big feast. At the and of the feast Mr. Filch, Hogwarts caretaker, brought in the Goblet of Fire. The Goblet would decide wich student from wich school would join the Tournament.
After the feast, every student could register themselves into the tournament and a few day later, at Haloween the Goblet of Fire would say wich student are in the tournament. And this was his choise: Representing Beauxbatons; Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum represents Durmstrang and the winner of Hogwarts was Cedric Diggory. But then something strange happened. The Goblet spew out another paper with Harry Potter on it. So there where four champions, and not everyone is happy with that. Espaccialy Ron, he was very angry on Harry because Harry is getting in the picture again.
De weeks after Haloween where terrible for Harry. Ron wasn’t speaking to him, everyone hated him because the liked Cedric more than Harry. But the main thing was; Harry shrunk from the taught of the first task.
On a day, Hagrid said to Harry that he had to come with him, he would show him something. When Harry walked with him he saw something that he doesn’t liked. Four giant Dragons, and Harry conculded that this was the first task; fighting them or something.
Then on a Tuesday the first task would start. The whole school came to the fields in a big cage and the champion heard what the had to do: The had to come past a dragon and get the golden egg. The first one who would go in to the cage was Fleur, then Viktor and then Cedric. Then it was Harry’s turn, he was very nervous, but had an plan to come past the dragon. He would do the thing he was the best in; flying. And with a few great tricks he stood behind the dragon and caught the golden egg.
Every one was happy, and even Ron concratulated him and said sorry for the days before.
The days after the task were very nice for Harry. He was friends again with Ron and the next task was only in February. Nothing very specially happened, except for Hermoine who founded the House Elf Liberation Front, because she doesn’t the why wizzards looked after House Elfs. (House elfs are a sort of Butlers, they are in charge by wizzards but aren’t getting paid for it). But Ron tought tis idea very stupid because the elfs like it, so you can not do anything against it. But Hermoine wouldn’t listen to him.
Harry and his friends had more lessons and then after a lesson from professor McGonagall, the teacher Transfiguration, Harry heard the news that with Christmas that year, the school was having a Yule ball only for the student of the 4th grade an higher. But the worst news was that all of the four champions were supposed to open the ball with there partners...
So, the next days, Harry and Ron were trying to find themselves a partner for the Yule ball, but is doesn’t went very well. All the prety girls already had someone and the less prety girls...
But finally the both get a partner; Harry got Parvati Patil and Ron got her sister; Padma Patil.
Harry didn’t liked the Yule ball, he couldn’t dance and at the and of the evening he had an argument with Parvati because he wouldn’t dance with her anymore.
But then, a few days later, he heard what he had to do at the second task. The champions had to get the things they liked the most, back from merpeople.
Harry had no idea how to get under water for so long time, because the lake was very deep and the merpeople wouldn’t live at the bank of the lake. So he had to be for about an hour under water...
Harry searched in all the books he could find, but in no book there was anything how to get an hour under water, and he was getting more and more desperated.
But, an hour before the test, he found something what would help him, Gillyweed. When someone chews on Gillyweed he got gills, and could breath under water. So Harry got to the lake and at the starting signal, he ran into the water and saved Ron, the person he would miss the most... And again he passed a task.
The weeks after the second task, Harry was practising for the third one. Wich contains, a giant labyrinth with all kind of magical creatures. The champions had to find the Golden Cup, and the one who touches the cup the first, wins. Harry tought this was the esiest task of all three, so he practises a lot with Hermoine and Ron, learning different kind of spells they tought they were usefull.
Then came the day of the first task. All the champions were standing in front of the maze, waiting for them to get in. When Harry was in the maze, everything was getting great. He passed all the obstacles and he was the first one who saw the Cup. But he was not allone, Cedric also saw the Cup and the tuched it at the same time and the flew away. The cup was transformed to a Portkey, and they moved to a graveyard.
Harry didn’t knew if this part belongs to the task, so he and Cedric were very carefull. Then they saw a man coming between the graves and the man killed cedric and tied Harry up on a stone. Then, the man took a giant cauldron, and maked some kind of potion and putted a very ugly baby in it. And a man stepped out of the cauldron and looked to Harry; Lord Voldemort was reborn.
Voldemort summoned his Deatheaters, and when they came, he tried to kill Harry. But again this failed, with a strange thing happening with his wand, Harry could leave Voldemort and returned, with the portkey, back to Hogwarts.
When he came back there everyone was very frightened and Dumbledore took him inside the castle and Harry told him what happened.
After he told the whole story Harry went to the Hospital Wing for a long sleep.
And, a few weeks later, the end-of-term feast came. And then Harry returned, bu Hogwarts express, back to his aunt and uncle.
My own opinion:
I think Harry Potter is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. They are very exciting and it never bores, even if you read it for the 10th time (what I also did...). Reading this book in english was not very easy, but is was easier to read because I’ve read the Dutch version of the book many times so I knew many things. But I think if I read the book for the first time immediately in english, I wouldn’t understand a word of it.
