Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
A.
1. Write a detailed summary of each chapter while you read the book. If the book
doesn’t have chapters then write a part of your summary after every 10 or 20
pages.

The story begins with Voldemort who is making plans to kill Harry. Meanwhile Harry and his aunt, uncle and cousin need to leave the house, because the protection of the house will vanish when Harry turns 17.
His friends help him take him to a safer place. Six friends take a potion so they turn in a duplicate of Harry. Now there are 7 Harry’s and they all fly separately to a safer place. During the journey they are being attacked. Everyone survives except Alastor "Mad-Eye".

They all come together at Weasley’s house. Harry now wants to talk with Ron and Hermione, but Mrs Weasley is avoiding that. Harry Ron and Hermione are thinking of dropping out of school. They want to find the remaining Horcrux and destroy them. They make plans to leave after the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur.
At the day of the wedding death eaters arrive at the party and say Voldemort has taken over the power. Harry Ron and Hermione leave directly to London. But there they are discovered by death eaters, so they go to Grimmauld place. they stay there for a time a make plans to steal the Locket Regulas Black (brother of Sirius) at the ministry, because it is a Horcrux.
After they have stolen it, they travel through the country to search the other horcruxes. After an argument Ron leaves.

Harry wants to go to Godric's Hollow where he was born and where the graves of his parents are. He hopes he finds there a horcrux. At Godric's Hollow he is being attacked bij Nagini the snake of Voldemort, he survives, but his wand not.
Now he is travelling again through the country with Hermione. At one day a deer is taking him to a frozen pool. He sees the sword of Griffindor is in it. He decides to dive. But when he gets the sword he can’t get out of the water. Ron saves his life and destroys the Locket with the sword.
They decide to go to Xenophilius Lovegood. They hope he can help them do find the remaining horcuxes. He tells them a fairytale about 3 brothers who wanted to defeat death. They could do that with the elder wand, the Resurrection Stone and the invisibility cloak. These things are the deathly hallows.
Now they are travelling again through the country. In an argument Harry is saying the forbidden word, Voldemort. Death eaters now can trace them. The Death eaters are taking them to a house and take them in prison in the house of Malfoy Manor. The Death eaters were waiting for Voldemort. Harry and friends escaped and were going to the house of Bill and Fleur. They are making plans to steal horcrux cup from Gringotts. They don’t know how to destroy it because they lost the sword.
They decide to go to Hogwarts because they think there is another horcrux. He thinks this horcrux is a Diadem of ravenclaw. The cup is destroyed by a tooth of the basilisk. The Diadem is destroyed by Fiendsfyre.
Harry finds out that Severus Snape wanted to protect him against Voldemort. He also finds out that his scar is one of the Horcruxes. That means that he has to be murdered by Voldemort.
He decides to go to Voldemort. Meanwhile he has the Resurrection stone, so his parents appear. He also has the invisibility cloak. Now he doesn’t know he is having two of the deathly hollows.
In the forest Voldemort tries to murder Harry. Harry seems to be dead, but he isn’t. At the castle Harry (good) and Voldemort (evil) are duelling again. Voldemort wants to say a spell to murder Harry, but it doesn’t work because Voldemort isn’t the owner of this wand, so the spell hits Voldemort and Voldemort dies.

19 years later Harry marries with Ginny and Hermione with Ronald.

I chose this book because I like the books of Harry Potter, they are well written, they have a very nice story and they are easy to read. J.K. Rowling has something nice in her way of writing, because you get absorbed in the stories. I expected this book to be good because I read all the other six books of Harry Potter.
But the title is very special again, because there is a lot of fantasy in this title.
I didn’t know what the title meant before I read the book, but I already knew some things about the book, namely that Harry Potter was going to fight with Lord Voldemort (who is everyone’s enemy).
The writer is J.K. Rowling; she is a very good writer and she became very famous after her first Harry Potter book. She is one of the richest women in England.
The genre of the Harry Potter books is fantasy.
I didn’t read the backside of the book, because I like Harry Potter so much that I don’t want to know what is going to happen in the book.

When I finished the book I felt sorry that the story ended, this is namely the last book of the Harry Potter series. Because of this book I wish that the movie will also be good. What I will always remember about this book is how certain persons died, like Fred Weasley and Tops.

I would recommend this book to others, because it’s well written and easy to read. You only need to know the English names if you always read the Dutch version.
The title is very nice, it means that three deathly hallows are very important to kill Voldemort. The three artifacts are The Invisibility Cloak (Harry has it), The Resurrection Stone and The Elders Wand.

2. I chose this book because I like the books of Harry Potter, they are well written, they have a very nice story and they are easy to read. J.K. Rowling has something nice in her way of writing, because you get absorbed in the stories.

6. What is the genre of this book? Explain.
Fantasy because there aren’t wizards and snakes who are bigger than a building.

7. If there is a motto, explain it. There is no motto.

8. What is the theme (the central thought around which the story is built, the
subject)? Explain how it works in the story.
The themes are death and love. In the end you see how harry fell in love with Ginny and Hermione with Ronald. There is also a theme good against evil, that the good almost always wins from evil.

9. Where does the story take place? London, Hogwartz and many other places.

10. In what time and space does the story take place? London and Hogwartz, in modern time because there are cars and trains and television.

11. What is the meaning of the end of the story? that good almost always wins from bad and that friendship is very important for defeating the bad guys.

12. Did you learn anything from the story? (sometimes a story tells us NOT to do
something, so you can learn from their positive and negative/bad behaviour)
I learned that if you’re a bad person you don’t win from the good.

13. Does the story describe the reality very accurately?
No because wizards are fictive people. We all think strange things sometimes or we have a little strange thing in our heads, like psychotics who think that our fictive world does exist, but this reality doesn’t exist.

The characters
The main characters are: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (these three are also best friends). Another main character is Voldemort, the enemy of Harry.
Harry Potter is trying to kill Lord Voldemort, (and Voldemort is trying to kill Harry) by searching for the deathly hallows and this keeps them occupied almost all the time.
He must have the three artifacts to kill Lord Voldemort. Ron and Hermione are trying to help him with his quest. Ron and Harry have quarrels with each other but later in the book they reconcile their quarrels.
The relationship between Harry, Ron and Hermione is very strong, they have been friends since the first day at Hogwarts. And Harry and Voldemort are enemies.

Harry Potter is the boy who lived. The story is very much about him. When he was a baby his parents (Lily and James Potter) were killed by Voldemort, but his mother defended him against the black power of Voldemort by the curse Avada Kadabra. Now he has only a scar on his head by the curse by which he can ‘communicate’ with Voldemort. He wants to find the deathly hallows on his own because he doesn’t want that Hermione and Ron get hurt or die.

Ron Weasley is the best friend of Harry, and he helps him with his quest to search for the deathly hallows in book six and seven. Ron has five brothers and one little sister. They are called Charlie, Bill, Percy and Fred and George are twins, the little sister is Ginny, she has a crush on Harry (at the end Harry and Ginny are having children). Also Ron has children in the book with Hermione.

Hermione Granger is a mud-blood she is half wizard and half non-wizard. Her parents are dentists so her parents are no wizards. She is also helping Harry with his quest, which Harry doesn’t want. Hermione is very smart (she knows everything) but she is not such a great wizard as Harry. At the end she has children with Ron.

Voldemort is the Dark Wizard, his real name is Marten Asmodom Vilijn. He is son of a mother who is wizard and a father who is non-wizard. He died when he was trying to kill the Potter family, but he failed because Harry was living. In book four he is rising from death (in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). But in the end of this book he dies for ever.

I don’t recognize much in the characters. The only aspect I see in myself is that I always want to help somebody, just like Ron. I don’t recognize myself in their problems because I don’t need to kill someone with a magic wand.

The most sympathetic character is Hermione, she is smart, nice and very careful, always helpful and afraid that Harry is going to die.
The least sympathetic character is Voldemort of course, he kills everybody who is standing in his way or if you are a muggle-blood. The main characters are: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (these three are also best friends). Another main character is Voldemort, the enemy of Harry.

There a no autobiographic elements in this book.
