Bella has not seen Jacob after Edward came back, and therefore likes to go to Jacob. But Edward thinks that it is too dangerous, because he is afraid Jacob will hurt Bella.
Finally Bella convinces him, and she is allowed to go to Jacob. Meanwhile, there are many murders in the city and many people disappear. After Jasper has told his past, the Cullen family thinks there is an army of vampires in the city. The vampires in the city are young and therefore strong, but they can not control themselves and are killing many people.
Bella wants to be a vampire and asks Edward if he wants do to that. But Edward says that she first has to marry him. Despite the fact that Bella does not want to mary him, she gives in.
Jacob also tells Bella that he loves her. Meanwhile in the city more murders are committed.
They detect that Victoria is behind these murders. Victoria is James wife and James has been killed by Edward. Victoria wants to take revenge on the Cullens family and she wants to kill Bella with the army of 21 vampires.
Despite the fact that they are natural enemies, the werewolves and the Cullen family work together and they win the battle against the vampires. Jacob gets injured in the battle.
Bella tells Jacob that she loves him but she still chooses for Edward.
