Title: a kiss before dying.
Author: Ira Levin.

Summary:

Dorothy is pregnant, but her boyfriend doesn’t want to keep the baby.
He wants her to have an abortion, but she doesn’t want that.
That’s because if she wanted to get married her father would disinherit her and that was the only reason why he was in love with her.
Bud (her boyfriend) doesn’t want to live with Dorothy and the baby.
He only wants to marry her because she is rich.
Bud gives Dorothy pills that she must take. They don’t work…then he gives the other pills with poison, but Dorothy doesn’t take the pills, she wants to marry Bud and she wants to keep the baby.

Bud decides to tell Dorothy that they will get married.
On the day of the marriage they go to the Municipal building for a license. But it is closed…they go to the roof for fun. When Dorothy sat on the wall of the roof, he pushed her…and…she died…
The police had to believe that Dorothy killed her self (suicide). And they did believe that, because Dorothy wrote a “good-bye” note…

Dorothy’s sister Ellen Kingship does not believe what they say about Dorothy that she committed suicide.
She decides to go to Blue River to find out what really happened.
With an excuse she goes to the headmaster of Stoddard, to find out what the names are of the handsome guys with blond hair and blue eyes in Dorothy’s English class. They’re two guys: Gordon C. Gant and Dwight Powell.
First she goes to Gordon’s house, but he isn’t the killer. Then she goes to Dwight.
He isn’t the one either, but he knows that Dorothy was seeing another guy from her English class and he has got his address somewhere.
Together they went to Dwight’s house and look for the address. He looks upstairs for the address, but when he was upstairs Ellen’s boyfriend shot him: Bud Corliss.
Bud tells Ellen that Dwight wanted to kill her. Bud and Ellen go away in a car and near a restaurant. Bud shoots Ellen, because she gets suspicious.

Bud brings a book of Ellen to Ellen’s sister Marion Kingship to get in touch with her.

After a little while they decided to get married. A few days before the wedding, Gordon Gant went to Leo Kingship.
Gordon tries to convince Leo that Bud has something to do with Ellen’s, Dorothy’s and Dwight’s dead. Leo Kingship tells this to Marion, but she doesn’t believe him.
Gordon breaks into Bud’s house and he finds a box with brochures from Kingship Copper and other evidence that Bud is the killer!!
Gordon goes back to Leo Kingship and they show the evidence to Marion, and now she believes them.
Two days before the marriage Leo, Marion and Bud go to the smelter factory.
They sad, that they would throw him in the copper When Leo and Bud were watching the copper on the catwalk, Leo asked Bud how he got Dorothy to write the “good-bye” note. Bud was getting nervous, if he didn’t confess.
Three minutes later…Bud tells them how he got Dorothy to write the “good-bye” note…the frightened young man turned away from Marion, and his foot slipped on the metal floor. He started to fall from the end of the catwalk. As he fell towards the terrible vat of liquid copper, he heard a scream. It reminded him of Dorothy’s scream as she fell into the airshaft. It reminded him of Ellen’s scream before his third bullet killed her. And he realized that the scream was coming from his OWN mouth………….

Setting:
The story takes place in:
Blue River, the Stoddard University (the school from Dorothy and Bud), New York (where Marion and Leo Kingship live).

The title of the book:
A kiss before dying has everything to do with the things that happen in this book.

He ONLY loves the three sisters for the money. Everything is oke, but when something happened Bud still won’t get the money from their father.
I don’t know exactly what “a kiss” has to do it. Probably it has something to do with it because, Bud loved the girls for their money and when you’re in LOVE, you kiss…!!!

My personal opinion:
I liked this story, because it was realistic and exciting. It could also have happened in real life… if I was Ellen’s sister, I would also want to know what really happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!
