Matilda is a very young and talented girl. She lives in England, with her annoying brother and her neglecting parents. Her parents, mr. and mrs. Wormwood, didn’t like her at all and wanted her to watch T.V. quietly, just like every other “normal” child.
Every afternoon, mrs. Wormwood went to the bingo and mr. Wormwood went to work. Matilda was always quite bored, so she went to the library herself and read lots of books. At an age of four, she had read all the children books and started to read the books which were written for adults.
Matilda finally was allowed to go to school when she was six years old. She entered the class of miss Honey, who was blown away by seeing such a smart child. Unfortunately the cruel and frightening headmistress miss Trunchbull, didn’t let Matilda follow more difficult lessons.
One day, miss Trunchbull visited the class of miss Honey. She was angry, aggressive and scary and Matilda became angrier than ever before, because of the behaviour of miss Trunchbull. She was sitting quietly on her chair, staring at the glass of water of miss Trunchbull and as she thought “trip over, glass”, the glass actually did trip over!
After school she told her teacher. Miss Honey, knowing that Matilda had a very special gift, invited her to come over. She lived in a small house and didn’t have a lot. She had to live with only one pound a week, because her mean aunt, who was miss Trunchbull, took the rest of her salary. To help miss Honey, Matilda had a plan. She would practise and improve her “power” every day, until it was strong enough to write things with chalk on the blackboard at school, so she did.
The next time miss Trunchbull visited the class again, Matilda had practised enough to be able to write on the board, without touching the chalk, that miss Trunchbull had to leave her enormous house and give to the person it belonged to, miss Honey. Matilda also signed it with the name of miss Honey’s father, who passed away when miss Honey was young.
Matilda’s plan worked and miss Trunchbull thought it was the ghost of miss Honey’s father, who had written those words. She left her house very quickly and Matilda was allowed to skip some classes.
Suddenly Matilda’s parents had decided to move to Spain and they wanted to take Matilda with them. Matilda ran to miss Honey’s house and asked miss Honey to let her stay at miss Honey’s house. It was okay with miss Honey and mr. and mrs. Wormhood agreed as well, so they lived happily ever after.
