Book review: The land lady - Roald Dahl
The story begins with Billy Weaver, a 17-year-old boy from London. He is heading to Bath and is looking for a cheap hotel to spend the night in. He finds out that there might be a place in “The bell and dragon” so he takes the chance. On his way he spots a sign on which “bed and breakfast” is written and decides to go and take a look inside, but he is still convinced that the hotel would be better and leaves the B&B. When he looks behind his shoulder he spots the sign again and before he knows he’s already entering the B&B.
Before he can ring the bell a 45-50 year old woman opens the door. She gives him a lovely welcome and has already a room ready for him. He also finds out it’s really cheap and notices that there are no other jackets and hats on the coat rack, that it’s very calm and that all the animals are stuffed. The lady tells him that, before he can go to his room, he needs to sign the guestbook. When he opens this book he notices that there are only two names are in it and they sound very familiar.
In the rest of the story the talk about these two persons and the story ends with a question from Billy. He asks the lady if there are other people that visited this B&B in the last two years and the lady replies: ‘No only you’. And with this sentence the story ends.

Je raakt nauwelijks het onderliggende verhaal met deze samenvatting. Er zit een dreiging in en die loopt niet goed af voor de hoofdpersoon....denk ik
