Summary:

The book Eclipse is the third book of the Twilight series. The story tells us about the main character, Bella and how her life journeys because of the fact that her boyfriend is a vampire and that her other best friend is a werewolf. In this book, Bella is again being chased down by her enemy, Victoria, who happens to hate her, although we’re not really told why. At first, there are mysterious happenings and they found out about the killings of several towns, which were due to the fact of young vampires. Some of the mysterious happenings were when somebody went to Bella’s bedroom, to pick up some of her clothing, which would have her scent, so that they could trace her later onwards. This all eventually leads to them thinking of a very complicated plan, and to deceive Victoria. However, during all these events, there was something that really kept bugging her that was at the back of her mind and she really wasn’t looking forward to deciding. She had to choose her future love, whether she would go with Edward, her love, who also happened to be a vampire, or to choose her best friend, who happened to be a guy and also happened to be a werewolf. When her best friend, Jacob, tells her that he loves her, more than a friend, she realizes that she also loves Jacob. In the end, Victoria’s revenge was overcome by Jasper’s plan, who is a brother of Edward, and Bella chooses to marry Edward.

Title explanation:

The definition of Eclipse is:

The partial or total blocking of light of one celestial object by another. An eclipse of the Sun or Moon occurs when the Earth, Moon, and Sun are aligned.



In the book at the very end Bella says that Jacob is her sun and he shines through the clouds, then Jacob said "I can't shine through an eclipse" He is meaning that Edward is her sun and moon, and that is why the book is called eclipse. But during the whole book Bella can't decide between loving, being changed, and marrying Edward, or staying human and loving Jacob so the whole time mostly in the book she's in an eclipse.

Main theme:

The fight between the new born vampires and the Cullen’s.

And of course the fact that Bella has to choose between Edward and Jacob.



Beginning & end:

In the beginning Bella is happy with Edward, without problems. Edward wants to marry Bella, but Bella don’t want to marry yet. She wants to be a vampire so she can live forever with Edward, but Edward doesn’t want her to be a vampire. Later on Edward says that if Bella marry him, he makes her a vampire. Bella don’t speak with Jacob anymore, but at the end of the novel they’re good friends again. At the very end of the novel Bella says she wants to marry Edward, before she’s going to be a vampire. So she gets her engagement ring and they’re going to tell Charlie about their engagement.



Climax or Anticlimax:

I think Eclipse is a climax, because when you think it will go on like it is, there comes a new adventure and then the tension is rising again. In the end the tension is gone, but it’s all about the love between Edward and Bella then.



Personal opinion:

I like this book very much because I had seen the movies Twilight and New Moon before. If I didn’t see these two movies, I wouldn’t know where the novel was about, and who everyone is. But if you know that, it’s an amazing book. You are in a whole other world. I don’t believe in vampires and were wolfs, but this novel makes them a little bit real. The love between Edward and Bella is so strong, everyone could be jealous on their love. That’s the most amazing thing in this novel, the biggest love between two people that you have ever seen.
