Summary
Act 1

Many years the family of Capulet and Montague have a feud. They both live in Verona a city in Italy. Romeo is the only son of Lord Montague and Juliet is the only daughter of the Capulets. At one day there’s a quarrel between both servants of the families. Benvolio, a friend of Romeo and a nephew of Lord and Lady Montague, tries to kill him, but Tybalt a nephew of Lord and Lady Capulet and a close friend of Juliet come in between. The citizens of Verona have had it with the Capulets and the Montague’s. When Capulet and Montague come and start quarrelling, the Prince of Verona comes, and take them all apart. He tells them, if they ever quarrel again, they'll be both banished. All the while Romeo arrives, he’s very sad. He’s in love with a girl named Rosaline. But she’s not in love with him too.

Later, Lord Capulet talks to Paris, a young nobleman who wants to marry Juliet. Lord Capulet thinks it's too early for that (Juliet is only 14 years old), but he may perhaps try to steal her heart. Lord and Lady Capulet is going to give a party at his house that night, all people need to wear masks. So you can’t see who’s behind the other mask. Everyone but only the Montague’s are not invited. A clown brings the invitations to everyone, but he can't read very well. He asks Romeo. Romeo reads the names to him, and sees that Rosaline is invited. Romeo decides to go to the party.

Right before the party, Juliet, her mother and her nurse have a little word. Her Mother would like to know if Juliet is ready to marry (with Paris). Juliet promise her mother to think about it. When Romeo and his friend go to the party, Romeo and Juliet met each other and they fall in love. They don't know each other yet, but they find out that there families are enemies.

Tybalt sees Romeo at the party, but isn't allowed to kill him. Lord Capulet wants to keep the peace.


Act 2

The party's over, and everybody's left. Romeo stays nearby, and climbs over the orchard walls to see Juliet. They talk a while, and exchange vows. They want to marry. Juliet will send the nurse to Romeo the next morning, because she need more information about the marriage. The next morning, Romeo goes to Friar Laurence to ask him, to wed them the same afternoon. Friar Laurence is surprised, because he thought that Romeo was in love with Rosaline, but he'll marry them. Later that morning the nurse come to Romeo, and Romeo tells her the news. The nurse tells the news to Juliet. Both Lord and Lady Capulet and Lord and Lady Montague don't know anything about this marriage. Later that day, Romeo and Juliet are married.

Act 3

Mercutio (a friend of Romeo) and Benvolio are talking. Tybalt comes by and starts quarrelling. Romeo joins the party, and Tybalts attention goes to him. Romeo tries to calm him down, but Tybalt doesn't calm down. Tensions rises, and Mercutio challenges Tybalt. Then Tybalt slays Mercutio, under Romeo's arm. Mercutio curses both the houses before he dies. Tybalt flees. Benvolio brings Mercutio away, and returns with bad news of his dead. Romeo is furious and slays Tybalt, who's come back. Then the citizens come, together with the Prince. The prince has enough of the quarrel, and banished Romeo from Verona. Romeo must escape before they find him, otherwise he'll be killed. Juliet heard about Tybalts dead. She also find out that Romeo has killed Tybalt and will be banished. Juliet is sad about Tybalt, but forgives Romeo. She wants him to come over that night. Romeo comes to her from the church where he hide. They spend the night together. Then Paris comes to the Capulets and Lord Capulet gives his consent for a marriage between Paris and Juliet.

The next morning, Romeo leaves and Juliet's mother comes in. She tells her about the marriage. Lord Capulet had select out a day. Juliet doesn't react well to it. She says, she would rather marry Romeo, the son of her families enemies. Then Lord Capulet comes upstairs and hears about Juliet's reaction. He's very angry and tells Juliet that if she don’t marry Paris, she must leave the house and she'll be excluded. Juliet's mother choose her father's side, and doesn't support her. The nurse says to Juliet, that Paris is much better than Romeo. Romeo is dead, or at least gone, She will never see him again. Juliet goes to Friar Laurence. She would rather be dead than marry Paris.


Act 4

Juliet and Friar Laurence talk about Paris and Romeo. Juliet says, she wants to be dead if she must marry to Paris. Friar Laurence convinces her not to play suicide. But take a fake poison, so it would like that Juliet is dad. He gives her a sort of poison, that'll make her look like dead. She has to take it that evening, and she needs to be alone. The Family will bring her to the Family grave, where she will awake after 42 hours of sleep. All the time Friar Laurence will send letters to Romeo in Mantua, telling him of the situation. When Juliet awakes, Romeo and the Friar will be with her. Juliet takes the poison with her and goes home. At home, she tells her father and mother that she will marry Paris. They make preparations for the celebration and Juliet goes to bed. She takes the poison and the next morning the nurse find her 'dead'. The nurse told the Capulets of the bad news, and they're distraught with sadness. Paris also heard the news, and is sad too. Friar Laurence comes to the house, too, and he tells them, to take Juliet to the church.


Act 5

Balthasar, Romeo's man, brings the news of Juliet's dead to Romeo. Nobody knows that Juliet isn't really dead. Romeo is distraught with sadness. He goes to Verona. First, he goes to an apothecary to buy some poison, that will kill him as soon as he's in Juliet's grave. Romeo doesn't meet Friar John. Romeo goes to Verona, to Juliet's grave, where he meets Paris. Paris thinks Romeo is guilty of Juliet's dead, and he starts a fight. Paris is slain and Romeo enters the grave of Juliet. There he drinks the poison, and dies. Later, Friar Laurence comes. First he sees Paris’s body and later he sees Romeo’s body, by Juliet's side. Juliet awakes, and the friar tells her of the two dead men. The friar leaves, and Juliet stays. She wants to die, too. There

Is not enough poison left, so she sticks herself with Romeo’s sword.

Lady Montague died of sadness when she see’s Romeo’s dead body. Later Lord Montague and Lord and Lady Capulet and the Prince come. They all want to know what happened. The Friar told them wat all happened. Now both families see what their enmity has done to the love of there childs. They make peace forever.
