To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs.

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella’s life - first discovered in Twlight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse - seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed… Forever?

General Information;
Title: Breaking Dawn
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Publisher: Atom
Number of pages: 754 pages

About the author;
Stephenie Meyer was born in Connecticut in 1973. When she was four, they moved to Phoenix. She went to high school in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was awarded a National Merit Scholarship, which she used for the Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Stephenie met her husband when she was four already, but they weren’t very close. They only saw each other at church activities. A few years later, they talked for the first time, and nine months after that, they got married. Now, they are happily married for almost 11 years, and have three sons. In 2005, she published her first book called Twilight, and unknown of the fact that it would get so popular, and that it would be a story of four thick books. In 2006, she published the first sequel to Twilight, called New Moon. In 2007, she published the next sequel, Eclipse. And last year, in 2008, she published the last sequel called Breaking Dawn. Stephenie said that she would be writing the last Twilight Saga book, for all of the fans, called Midnight Sun, but she trusted some people with already a sample, and someone misused it, and it got leaked. Stephenie will probably go on with writing it in the year 2011. Stephenie also published her new project, called The Host.

Summary;
Bella and Edward agree to marry each other, and soon after that, they went on honeymoon, where they make love to each other. Bella notices that her period is late, and they find out that she is pregnant. Edward wants that she takes an abortion, but Bella wants to keep the ‘baby’. The fetus is developing in an unnatural speed, which causes a lot of pain to Bella. The werewolf pack hears about the fetus, and decides to kill Bella, but Bella’s best friend, Jacob, leaves the pack to defend Bella. When she has to give birth, Bella almost dies because she loses a lot of blood, and then Edward decides to make her a vampire to save her life. Renesmee is born, and immediately after that, Jacob imprints on Renesmee. Bella doesn’t have a hard time adjusting to her new vampire life, and she can control herself very good. But then, Alice ‘sees’ that the Volturi is coming, so she and Jasper leaves, and leaving the family alone with the mission to get as many other covens in their home to witness for Renesmee that she isn’t an undead vampire baby. When they come, Bella finds out about her special gift, and uses that against the Volturi, who sees that Renesmee is no danger, and they leave. Alice and Jasper come back, and they all live happily ever after for ever.

Main characters;
Bella Swan: Bella is the main character of all, she is a silent girl, one that doesn’t want to be in the picture. She doesn’t speak much in public, but is very clever. She is always sunken in her thoughts, the only place that Edward can’t read, and Bella is happy with that. If Bella wants something, she goes for it.

Edward Cullen: Edward is also a main character. He is a vampire boy, and doesn’t show up very much because of some things. He loves Bella very much, and does always everything to protect her. He is very strong and fast.

Jacob Black: Jacob is a werewolf, so he is the enemy of the vampires, but in this book, they get along with each other really good. He and Bella are best friends, but Jacob wanted more first, but Bella didn’t.

Renesmee Cullen: Renesmee is the child of Bella and Edward. She grows at high speed, and is able to communicate in a very special way. She is very smart for a just born baby, and notices everything.

Fragment;
‘ Her eyes were huge as she read the agony on my face. But she had guessed enough not to ask me what I was doing. ‘’I love you,’’ I told her. ‘’More than anything.’’ ‘’I love you, too, Momma,’’ she answered. She touched the locket at her neck, which now held a tiny photo of her, Edward, and me. ‘’We’ll always be together.’’ ‘’In our hearts we’ll always be together,’’ I corrected in a whisper as quiet as a breath. ‘’But when the time comes today, you have to leave me.’’ Her eyes widened, and she touched her hand to my cheek. The silent no was louder than if she’d shouted it. I fought to swallow; my throat felt swollen. ‘’Will you do it for me? Please?’’ She pressed her fingers harder to my face. Why? ‘’I can’t tell you,’’ I whispered. ‘’But you’ll understand soon. I promise.’’ ‘

This is from page 675 and 676, in the third part narrated by Bella, so with the I, they mean Bella. This is the point where Bella thinks, she and Renesmee are going to be separated by the Volturi, so she thinks that it is goodbye. This is the vital piece that helps Bella in the mental fight in which she gets, to defend her side, because she is doing it for Renesmee, so that they can stay together.

Comment points;
Mention a problem the story points to, explores or deals with. Does the problem get resolved or is it simply presented? How would you have dealt with the problem?
When the book goes towards the end, the Volturi are coming for Renesmee and Bella. At first, they just let it fade, but when it came closer, they started to solve the problem, by gathering witnesses to account for Renesmee and Bella. I think that I would do the same thing when I had to choose.

Which character(s) did you especially like? What qualities appealed to you?
My favourite character of the book is Renesmee, because of what she can do. Her physical appearance is one of the nicest things about her; she is described in detail in the book. But also her special power, a new type of communication, is very nice.

What was your favourite part of the book? Explain why that part was appealing to you?
I think that would be the second part, when Jacob starts to narrate, because his thoughts are extremely different then Bella’s. He tells things in a different way, and he makes me laugh too.

Are you left with any questions or thoughts about the story that you do not have an answer to?
There were many questions that I didn’t had an answer to, but later, I just started to search in the book, and internet, and discussing about it with some friends. I can’t think of one now, but there are many questions that you can ask about it, but on the most, you will never get an answer, because it was the last part.

Comment on the style of writing (perspective, vocabulary, style etc);
Well, the book is divided in three parts; the first one is narrated by Bella, as usual. The second part gets narrated by Jacob, and the third part does Bella again. They both think different, so the parts are very different, as they also use other words in some sentences. Bella’s first and third parts are also written very different, because she was still human in the first part, but a vampire in the third. But it was nice to have another person narrating for a time.

New ending;
‘’Well Alice, what do you see?’’ I asked quietly. She kept on looking to me with her gloomy eyes. She still was looking at what happened. ‘’They are gone,’’ she whispered. ‘’The Volturi changed course.’’ I felt some happiness boiling up. Everything was over now; we just could all become one big family, as promised. ‘’Mommy.’’ Renesmee said. I picked her up, and she touched me. Are we safe now? I smiled, and hugged her. ‘’Yes, we’re safe, just like before.’’ She smiled. I love you. ‘’And I love you too, ofcourse.’’ I let Renesmee go, and she went to Jacob. She was smiling the whole time, Jacob too. What where they laughing about? The door opened and Carlisle came in. ‘’They’re gone, Carlisle.’’ Alice was too fast, but she knew Carlisle was coming. ‘’You are cheating.’’ I laughed. She smiled. A soft sound, and then Edward stood there. ‘’Are you fine?’’ he asked. I just only had to look to give an answer. He gave me that crooked smile again, the smile that I love. ‘’It’s getting late,’’ I said, and watched the air. ‘’Should we go?’’ I looked at Edward. He was holding her now. ‘’Sure, let’s go.’’ he said. We ran to our cottage, and lay Renesmee in her soft, little bed. Edward sang the lullaby for her. I went back to our own bed, and thought about what happened today. Hoping that they won’t disturb us ever again…

Comment on the title;
I think the title is perfect for the book, because the title always appears a time in the book, and a person talks about it. If I had to choose another title for the book, it would be Difficult Choices, because Bella takes some decisions that have a major impact for the book, and if she would change those, the whole book should be changed.

Recommendation;
Yes, I really recommend the book, but I suggest that you start with Twilight and read Breaking Dawn if you’re finished with the others, because it could be very confusing as you don’t know who is who and what is happening and why etc. The book is nicely written, and if you read a chapter, you really want to read the rest too.
