Meer informatie
James and the giant peach The story tells about a boy named James, he's an 7 years old orphan who lives with his two aunts, aunt Sponge and aunt Spiker. James lives a terrible life because his aunts don't let him play or speak with other children, they beat him and let him do all the hard work. One day, when James has to work in the garden, an old man suddenly jumps out of the bushes and gives him a bag with really strange crawling, green beans. The man says that the beans are magical and wonderful things could happen. Then the man suddenly disappears. James runs towards home, but trips over a treebranch and all the little beans fall out of the bag and disappear into the ground. James goes home, disappointed, and goes to bed. The next day there suddenly hangs a peach in the 'dead' tree, the day after it's much bigger and the day after that day the peach is as big as a melon, you could see the peach grow. The peach keeps growing and growing and the aunts make big fence around and let people pay to see the huge peach. James has to take care of the peach like it's a little baby so it won't rot. One day during one of James corvées he find a door in the peach, he opens it and climbs trough a tunnel, he comes to another door and then.... He can't believe his eyes, He saw creatures one Old-green-Grasshopper, an enormous Spider. And next to the Spider, there was a giant Ladybird. On the floor , there was a Silkworm, an Earthworm, a Glow-worm and a Centipede. All of them were about the same size or bigger, they greeted him and said that they were waiting for him to come, first James was very afraid but later he became friends with them. After a time the peach suddenly started to move, it rolled out of the garden, from the hill, through the town and eventually into the sea. After a time just floating, they look over the sea and see that they are in danger, sharks are eating their peach and soon it will sink. The James comes up with an idea, they catch seagulls with the ropes of the spider and the silkworm. When they have caught enough seagulls the take off, THEY FLY!! They fly a long time and eventually start to descend. It becomes really scary because they're moving towards a spike. At the end the spike turns out to be the empire state building. The people of New York first are a bit afraid of the strange orange object on the top of their famous skyscraper, but when a little boy climbs out they are sure that it isn't an attack from another galaxy. James and all his friends are treated like heroes and they live in NYC for as long as they live, do you want to know where James lives... do you???? He lives in the stone of the giant peach and every day kids come to ask him about the great story. My Opinion I think it's a great book, with a hell lot of fantasy and a funny moral. Everybody should have read this book once in their live, even if you're 35 years old and you haven't read it, READ IT!!!!!!!! The only downside of the story is: James, he is a woos, a coward. He should stand up himself much earlier. So for everybody who didn't understand it before, you MUST read this book!
