Summary It was night, when Rollie Wedge and Sam Cayhall planted a bomb, in charge of boss Dogan, in the office of the Jewish lawyer Marvin Kramer. His 2 sons die and he commits suicide just after. 23 Years later Sam Cayhall is already 9 and a half years on death row, at Parchman MSU, Rollie Wedge still is walking around free. Then his grandson Adam comes along, a well educated lawyer ready to help his grandfather, who he just knew for 1month. Aunt Lee told him this, just after his father passed away. He convinces his grandfather to let him help him. He signs a contract with Sam. McAllister, the governor, wants all the publicity possible about the case, but pity because Adam's contract says he may not talk to him. McAllister is a man of the people, always saying what they want and that was Sam Cayhall dead! When almost all their appeals against the execution got denied, they play the appeal on his mental condition... A doctor confirms he's nuts but the guards of MSU, Sergeant Packer and Colonel Nugent, know him for years and they testify against it. the appeal gets denied and it looks like Sam is going to die... The next 24hours are horrible, the waiting to death kills Sam even more, then at just midnight he must go into the gas chamber.
