Title explanation
The title has a lot to do with the book, because in the book, the main character Christopher John Francis Boone solves the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. In the book the main story goes about a dog which is killed at night. That’s why the book is called "The curious incident of a dog in the nighttime". After this incident Christopher wants to find out who killed the dog, because he’s a big fan of Sherlock Holmes.
There are a lot more mysteries in this book, but those mysteries are not mentioned in the title.

Good passage from the book
Then the police arrived. I like the police. They have uniforms and numbers and you know what they’re meant to be doing. There was a policewoman and a policeman. The policewoman had a little hole in her tights on her left ankle and a red scratch in the middle of the hole. The policeman had a big orange leaf stuck to the bottom of his shoe which was poking out from one side. The policewoman put her arms around Mrs Shears and led her back towards the house. I lifted my head off the grass. The policeman squatted down beside me and said, ‘Would you like to tell me what’s going on here, young man?’
I sat up and said, ‘The dog is dead.’

Summary
This book is about a fifteen-year-old boy who is autistic and has a photographic memory. He understands maths and science. But he can’t understand other human beings. One night he finds out that his neigbour's dog Wellington is killed. He walked to the dog and embraced him, but then his neighbour Mrs Shears came outside and says: ‘What the fuck have you done to my dog??!’ Christopher said that he was just hugging it, but Mrs Shears called the police. When the police arrived, they were questioning Christopher and because he wasn’t answering the questions properly, he was tapped by the policeman and wanted to take to the department. But Christopher doesn’t like being touched, so he hit the policeman. After this the policeman grabbed Christopher and took him to the police station. Later, his father hears that his son was being arrested, so he went to the station immediately to take him home. The next day, inspired by Sherlock Holmes, Christopher tried to find out who killed Wellington. He looked for clues, he interrogated people, but he didn’t get any answers. A few days later, when he arrived home from school, he heard from his father that his mother died. But fortunately he wasn’t sad about it, because he doesn’t quite understand it. In school he told his teacher Ms Siobhan that he was finding out who killed Wellington and that he was writing a book about it. Ms Siobhan thought that it was a good idea and she would like to help him.
Weeks later he talked to one of his neighbours from across the street, Mrs Alexander, and found out that there was a Mr Shears, who appeared to be a terrible man. He used to have an affair with Christopher’s mother. So Mr Shears would be what he called his Prime Subject.
When he arrived home, he asked his father who Mr Shears was. His father became angry and said that he didn’t want to hear the name of the man. But Christopher said that he would like some information about Mr Shears, because of the case of Wellington. Then his father said not to interfere with other people’s business.
One day he found some letters in his father’s room, which were addressed to him. He read the letters and discovered that the letters are from his mom. He was more excited than ever. Now he had two mysteries to solve. But not for long, because his father came in the room. He said he was really sorry, and that he lied about his mother's death for his own good. But Christopher was more frightened than ever. He heard from his father that he killed Wellington. Christopher thought that his father would kill him as well. He decided to go to London, where his mother lived.
After a long trip he finally arrived at his Mother’s house and lived there for a while.

His father tried to make it up, so he buys a puppy for Christopher. Christopher was very happy.

Personal assessment
This book is one of the best English books I’ve ever read! This book really describes how an autistic boy is like, because autistic people have trouble understanding other human beings and they try to figure things out in a logical way, like maths and science.
This book is funny, exciting, sad and just wonderful. It has lots of different genres and emotions. This book is not very difficult, so it is easy to understand. A bad thing about the book is that it uses lots of bad words and curses in the book, which is bad for your English. Also a funny thing is, is that the chapters of the book are given in prime numbers and because the chapters are very small, this book has 233 chapters and an appendix! Another good thing is that the book is written in a first-person narrator, so that you have the feeling that you are Christopher and that you can see what it’s like, being autistic.
Finally I hope Mark Haddon will write more books, because I like his books very much.
