Edition: first Summary Morgan Leafy is working as a British diplomat in Kinjanja. He is not very lucky. His ex-girlfriend Priscilla, is having a relation with Dalmire. From his black girlfriend Hazel, he got a sexual disease, because of his active sex-life. He did not tell this to Priscilla, and when he had send her away without making love with her, she ended the relationship. Morgan wants to do everything to have his job. Even things which are not good. It is an easy and boring job until his boss, Mr. Fanshaw, says him to do him a favor. Because of the coming elections, he has to socialize with Adekule, the leader of the party which has the biggest chance to win (the KPN), so that the British have some influence on the government. Morgan tries to, and falls in love with Andekules wife Ceila. Andekules knows this and blackmails him by asking him to make contact with Doctor Murray, because he is the only one who can stop him from building a Hotel. This doesn’t work, even not by offering much money. Andekule also knows about his black girlfriend. If his boss does know this, he is in big trouble. Murray teaches Morgan that life is about being fair. You can better not be involved in politic cases. It is better that Morgan stops working. The days of the elections, Morgan clears all his undone cases, and stops his old job. He is ready for a whole new life. Author William Boyd was born in Accra, Ghana, on 7 March 1952. He grew up in Ghana and in Nigeria where his mother was a teacher and his father, a doctor. At the age of 9 years Boyd was sent to Gordonstoun School in Scotland. After that he was educated at the Glasgow University and Jesus College, in Oxford. His first novel was A Good Man in Africa (1981). This novel was published while he was a lecturer in English at St Hilda's College in Oxford. It won the Whitbread First Novel Award and a Somerset Maugham Award. Some later novels he wrote, won also prices. William Boyd was selected in 1983 as one of the 20 'Best of Young British Novelists' in a promotion by the Granta magazine and the Book Marketing Council. His genres are fiction, non-fiction, short stories, radio drama and screenplay. A good man in Africa is his first novel. Other titles of books which won a prizes are: An Ice-Cream War, Brazzaville Beach and The Blue Afternoon.
