Later in the book she marries Charles Darnay · Charles Darnay: He is a calm man, and he looks like/is a gentleman. He is a French man, and later he marries the English Lucie Manette. · Dr. Manette: He is an old man, and he it’s hard for him to remember things. He is the father of Lucie, and he was in prison for a long time. 8. Where is the story located? Explain
The story is located in Paris and in London: A big part of the book is about the Bastille, and the Bastille is in Paris. And the story is also located in London, because the main character, Charles Darnay, goes there. He does this, because it isn’t safe in France. 9. In what period is the story set? Explain

In the time of the French Revolution: The people were angry and they stormed the Bastille (prison in Paris). And that’s why the Revolution began. It’s also a chapter in the book: ‘The Revolution’ 10. What is the most crucial passage/episode do you think? Explain
I think that the most important/crucial passage is that, when Marquis Evrémonde is killed by a man. The man who did that, was caught and hung on a gallows. The people were angry about that and stormed the Bastille. That’s when the Revolution started: I think this is the most important because, when the Revolution started there also came new laws. And because of the new laws, Charles Darnay got into trouble, and was thrown into prison. 11. What character do you dislike? Explain
I dislike Miss Defarge, because she is unkind to people, and she wants everybody killed. She doesn’t sound nice. 12. What is your favourite character in the story? Explain
I think that Mr. Sydney Carton is my favourite character, because in the end it’s so nice of him that’s he wants to go to the guillotine instead of Charles. I think that that’s very nice! 13. Is this a good book to read? Explain
It’s not a great book to read, because it’s a little difficult. It has a lot of different names in it, and different places. The story itself is also a bit strange. In the end I discovered what the book was about, because I couldn’t follow the story. 14. Write a summary of 200 – 300 words
Dr. Manette was in prison for years, and everyone thought he was dead, but he wasn’t. When he got out of prison, he stayed at the house of Mr. Defarge, and there his daughter comes to visit him. Later in the book they all go to a trial of Charles Darnay. He is accused of being a spy. Lucie comes to testify that that isn’t true. At the end of the trial, the jury founds him: ‘Not Guilty’. He’s free to go. A person in a carriage, called Marquis Evrémonde, is driving really fast. He is in a great hurry, and in that hurry he kills a child. The father of that child is very angry about that accident, and held on, and rid under the carriage. He killed the Marquis when he slept. But, this man was caught, and hung on a gallows. The people were very angry about this, and stormed the Bastille. They freed all the prisoners. They also made new laws, for example: ‘Every member of the Marquis have to be killed.’, and Charles Darnay, was a nephew of the Marquis… Charles went to England, when his uncle was murdered, and there he met Lucie, whom he married. But when Charles came back to France he didn’t knew the new laws, and so he was brought to prison. The first time he was found ‘not guilty’, but the second time, he was sent to the guillotine. But his friend had a plan: Sydney Carton looked a lot like Charles, and therefore, he would go instead of Charles. Charles was put unconscious in a carriage, with his wife and daughter, and they drove away. The next day Sydney Carton was killed by the guillotine. Charles, Lucie, Lucie (junior), and there friends got away safely.
