Theme: The theme is that Negroes other rights has then white man. The theme is racism.
Verhaallijn: Het verhaal begint met een handeling in de opening. Geleidelijk aan krijg je steeds meer dingen over Fonny en Clementine te weten.
Het is een verhaal met een open einde. Je weet niet of Fonny nou uit de gevangenis komt of niet en of het goed gaat met de baby.
Mening: Tish is a girl who’s boyfriend is in jail. She is pregnant and she wants to be with Fonny, her boyfriend. The ending is very strange because you don’t now if Fonny is or is not out of jail yet.
It was a pleasure to read the book. Tish is a very good girl because her boyfriend is in jail and she still loves him. She’s also pregnant and Fonny is the father of the baby. The book is about African-Americans. The African-Americans are good and the white men and women are bad because the white men use the black men and the black men don’t want that. I think Tish's mother is the kindest person in the book, because she is kind and she never gets angry to any one in the book. The father is a nice person as well. Fonny's parents are not so nice. Fonny's sisters aren't nice either, because they act kind to everyone but they do not mean it. The ending is very bad because you don’t now the answers of to a few questions. The question whether Fonny is out of jail is the important questions to which you don’t get an answer. You don't get to know whether they come together with the baby and if the baby is a girl or a boy .
New York is not nice because there is a lot of racism. The love between Fonny and Tish is real love because they love each other even when Fonny is in jail. (240 words)

Dear diary,
Something bad happened today, and I am so mad.
Fonny has been found guilty of raping a woman, while he is innocent. It is so unfair. Now he has to go to jail, just when we found out I am pregnant and would find a home for our self.
My parents will help me but I want Fonny to help me.
That stupid police Officer Mr. Bell. He is a pure racist. I am so mad at him. Only because we are black, a Negro is guilty for raping. That does not make any sense. It is so wrong that something like this could happen in our society. Therefore, the African Americans and all the other foreigners have no future here.
I am so sorry for my Fonny. I hope he is OK in jail and I hope he's going to make it.
Just when everything is so good between us, he has to go to jail. It is so unfair.
What would happen to our baby? We have to get Fonny out of jail, before the baby will be born. But how are we going to do that? A lawyer is too expensive.
I hope God will help us and especially Fonny. We believe in God, so he has to help us.
When does he go in jail? I can not sleep, I can not live without Fonny. We will try to get him out but I don’t know how to do and we haven’t money enough. Please let God help us (255 words).

Ik heb dit gedicht geschreven omdat deze keuzeopdracht mij niet zo moeilijk leek en omdat het wel bij het verhaal past.
Ik heb het gedicht geschreven alsof ik Clementime ben.

1 Inleiding:
Ik maak deze recensie van het engelstalige boekje If Beale Street Could Talk.
Dit is een boekje van 213 bladzijden door de schrijver James Baldwin.
Deze schrijver heeft onder andere de boekjes Giovanni’s Room , No Name In The Street , Another Country en The Amen Corner geschreven.
2 Kern
Het verhaal gaat over een meisje Clementime genaamd maar meestal Tish genoemd in het verhaal. Dit meisje heeft een vriend dat in de gevangenis zit.
Deze jongen heet Fonny. Op het moment dat hij erin moet komt Tish erachter dat ze zwanger is geraakt net nu haar man en het vader van het babytje in de gevangenis is geraakt. Haar ouders zijn hele behulpzame ouders en de ouders van Fonny zijn maar wat aparte mensen. Met zijn allen proberen ze Fonny uit de gevangenis te halen en als je wil weten of dit lukt moet je het verhaal maar eens gaan lezen. Volgens mij is het slechte van het boekje het eind. Het is namelijk een open eind maar dit zul je wel merken als je het boekje leest.
Het is mooi hoe de schrijver de verhouding tussen Fonny en Tish weergeeft in het verhaal. Zelfs al zit haar man in de gevangenis ze blijft van hem houden en blijft ze voor hem vechten.
3 Afsluiting
Mijn uiteindelijke waardeoordeel is goed over dit verhaal maar ik vind het jammer dat het verhaal zo eindigt zoals in dit verhaal met een open einde.
Ik vind het een mooi boekje omdat het over onderdrukking gaat en daardoor Fonny op word gepakt en toch blijft Tish van hem houden zonder dat zij hem aan kan raken. Ik geef u zeker het advies het boekje te gaan lezen want over het algemeen is het een leuk boekje.
