Dear new pupil,

I am writing this letter to inform you about the way things work in the first grade and on our school in general. I will advise you regarding homework, hall and class behaviour and coming to late.

You will hear the teachers say this more than a thousand times to you, but it is true: Plan your homework. Make a day to day plan and a weekly schedule. Plan tests over a longer period. I recommend you not to learn test the day before they take place, but start learning several days or a week before. The most important of planning homework is to keep yourself to your schedules!

Don’t run in the halls, don’t run anywhere, especially not in the school hall and the school playground. Also don’t play on the school playground. What I advise you really not to do is playing with marbles on the school playground. You will only humiliate yourself with it.

Behave yourself in class. Keep yourself to the rules: no caps or hats, no chewing gum, no walkmans or discmans, no cell phones and no eating or dinking in class. Listen to the teachers, especially listen very careful when they explain you the subject-matter. But I think I don’t have to worry about class behaviour, because if you don’t behave yourself, the teachers will punish you.

Don’t come late. The first time you will get a warning and if you have a nice excuse you also don’t have to be worried. But if you haven’t then you will have to come to school at eight o’clock the next day. The third time you will have to come early twice, and so on. So you be warned!

If you follow these advises I gave you then you will make it easily to the second grade.
