Marilyn Monroe is also know as Norma Jeane Baker. Her name at birth is: Norma Jeane Mortenson. She’s born on June 1, 1926 in LA, California and she died on August 4, 1962 in Brentwood (also in California) Marilyn Monroe personified the Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy that the world loved. Although she was an attractive beauty with sensual looks and a generous pout*. But she was way more then THE sex goddess of the 50’s. She dominated the age of movie in spite of that she appeared as a vulnerable and innocent woman, who had an innate** sensuality. I personally find her one of the most famous woman of the 20th century. Now some information about her parends. Norma Jeane never knew her father. As we all ready know she was born on June 1, 1926. As the identity of her father is undetermined, she was later baptized as Norma Jeane Baker. The name of her mother is Gladys Baker. She had psychological problems where she’s later on committed to a mental hospital. Norma Jeane spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937. In 1937 she moved in with a friend of the family named: Grace McKee Goddard. But when her husband was transferred in 1942 to the East Coast they couldn’t afford the 16 year old Norma Jeane. She had 2 options: 1) Back to the orphanage or 2) getting married. She chose for the second option. On June 19th, 1942 she married her neighbor Jimmy Doughterty he was 21 years old when they married. Before they were married they had been dating for 6 months. A quote from Jimmy: ”She was a sweet, generous and religious girl, who liked to be cuddled.” She really loved Jimmy and they were happy together until he joined the Marines in 1944 and was send to the South Pasific. When Jimmy had left she started a job at the Radio Plane Munitions factory in Burbank. Several months later a photographer David Conover saw her while he was taking pictures for a magazine. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw her and called her: “Every photographer’s dream” Conover took pictures of her and before she knew she gotten offerd modeling jobs, within two years she was a reputable model with many popular magazine covers on her name. She began studying famous actrisses of her time. When Jimmy came home in 1946 she had to make an other choice and this time between her marriage with Jimmy and her (new) career. She divorced from Jimmy in June 1946. On August 26th, 1946 she signed her first studio contract with 20th Century Fox. She earned $125 a week. She changed her name into Marilyn Monroe when she dyed her hair blonde. Her first movie role was in 1947 where she played in the movie The Shocking Miss Pilgrim. She also played in other movies like: The Asphalt Jungle, All about Eve, Let’s make it legal, As young as you feel, Monkey Business, Don’t bother to knock, Niagra. After her performance in Niagra in 1953 she got lead roles like in the wildy populair Gentlemen prefere Blondes and How to marry a milionaire. Photoplay magazine voted Marilyn the best NEW actress of 1953 and at her 27 years old she was undeniable the best-loved blonde bombshell in Hollywood. On January 14th, 1954 she married baseball superstar Joe DiMagio at Sanfrancisco’s City Hall, before they married they had been a couple for almost two years. During their honeymoon in Tokyo she took time to preform for the service men stationed in Korea. Her presence caused almost a riot among the troops. And Joe wasn’t that confortable with the thousands of men who were looking and screaming to his new bride. Because of her fame and sexual image Marilyn and Joe divorced, because that theme was haunting their marriage. They were married for 9 months. As reason for their split up they said: “a conflict of careers” but Joe and Marilyn remained very close friends. Marilyn wanted her “shallow blonde” image to shed in 1955. Her blonde career had gotten her into the spotlights but now she had opportunities and the experience she needed. She decided to go into serious acting. She moved from Hollywood to New York to study under Lee Strasberg at his Actor’s Studio. In 1956 she started her own motion picture label, Marilyn Monroe Productions. Her company produced Bus Stop and The prince and the shadow girl. These 2 films showed the world her talent and what kind of actress she was. In 1959 she recieved the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance in the movie Some like it Hot. On June 29th, 1956 she married playwright Arthur Miller. Also their marriage stranded. They divorced on January 20th, 1961. Shortly before midnight on August 4th, 1962 the 36 year old Marilyn died in her sleep in Brentwood. The world was shocked. Because of her vibrant spirit and her beauty they couldn’t believe that she was gone. She was barried on August 8, 1962 in the Corridor of Memories #24, at Westwood Memorial Park in LA. During her career she made 30 film and left one unfinished. She was more then a beauty queen. The name Marilyn “Monroe” means these days: beauty, sensuality and effervescence (that you can become what ever you want to be)
