Capital punishment

There are a lot of criminals in the world. We read about them every day.
Just think of Marc Dutroux. Of course, such criminals have to be punished. There are several ways to do this. The worst thing that can happen to you may be capital punishment.
This kind of punishment has existed for ages.
Formerly, you were quartered or broken upon the wheel should you have comitted a crime.
It was the most normal thing in the world!
The current ways of execution are in comparison to the old days ‘mild'.
At present hanging, gassing, electrocution and deadly injections are the most popular ways. I don't think this is a normal way to treat human people. But many people don't agree with me; at least 43% of the Dutch people are in favour of capital punishment, this was become clear from recent research. Are The Netherlands really so over-simplified?
Although capital punishment is sometimes very effective, it should be abolished.
Article number three, Universal Rights of Man; everybody has a right for life, freedom and inviolablety. How wrong the crime even was, you cannot take away someone's right to life. And that is exactly the point. You do take someone's right to life away if you use Capital Punishment! So Capital Punishment is conflicting with the universal Rights of Man.
The advocates of Capital Punishment make often use of the primitive thought that the criminals can only be punished enough by Capital Punishment.
But... what will be more severe? Three minutes being elecrocuted or being sentenced to life in a cell with some hard kind of bed and a flickering fluorescent light?
Many people think that this kind of punishment scares a ‘starting criminal' of. But that is a point were you can doubt about. Research shows us that Capital Punishment doesn't scares of (when you will commit a normal crime).
Criminals think that they can avoid their punishment or they even don't think about the consequences if they are committing a crime!
By the way; the' punishment' for the next of kin may be even more difficult.
I think it isn't a nice thing to lose a brother, son or sister on this way.
What also counts: Capital Punishment is more expensive than being sentenced to imprisonment for lifelong. Especially the trials in the U.S.A.
take many, many years. And what if the condemned person, after his or her punishment, appears to be innocent? Then you're killing innocent people . That are the same dishonest practices as the criminals commited! Lifelong without reduction of punishment seems a better idea to me. The offender will not return to the community and when possible, the punishment can be cancelled.
I stay by my point of view: Capital Punishment - ridiculous! It is degrading.
And like I said before; there is no difference between the Middle Ages and nowadays. Except the way we execute.
