Essay in favour of possibility of violence in games.

I, Floris de Vriend, am in favour of the possibility of violence in games. Nowadays there are very many issues about the violence in games. Parents, political groups, game producers, and going on. They (except for most of the game producers of course) assume that many of the violent crimes and actions of youngsters nowadays a cause is of playing violent video games. According to my opinion, this is one hundred per cent nonsense.
Following are my arguments:

- For many centuries the older generation wants to protect the younger generation and think that the violent crimes are caused by new and modern music, style of dancing, television and going on. So our parents and grandparents have been probably criticised by Elvis his new kind of dancing and for example watching television taking away your talent to think up your own stuff or parents telling their children that to masturbate will make you blind.
- Gaming is a kind of entertainment, just like reading books, watching television, playing or listening to music or playing board and/or card games. But gaming is the most criticised form of entertainment of them all, but aren’t any of them just as harmful as gaming? Not that gaming is harmful, but if they assume gaming is harmful why don’t they look just as well to other kinds of entertainment? I mean, can’t a book about cruel murders be just as harmful as gaming? Or listening to music with an insulting or discriminating message? So any form of entertainment can be assumed as harmful, but that doesn’t mean that is really is harmful.
- According to a professor from the Tokyo university gaming isn’t harmful, but the exact opposite. It creates a kind of way to get rid of your negative emotions, like being angry or having this feeling that you are able to kill somebody for what they’ve done to you. You can see it as an exhaust of a car, it gets rid of the waste products.

According to my opinion, saying gaming is harmful is blaming an form of entertainment for something which is going wrong in the world or your own life. And if you do criticise gaming, then first look at violent art for example. It has been there for centuries but people criticise gaming more.
