Characters:

Billy Elliot ( the main character of the film,) is the son of Mr. Elliot, a mineworker. It’s playing in 1984. Billy is boxing, but that is going to change when Mrs. Wilkinson moves in with her ballet group in the other half of the boxing room. And Billy gets confused. He doesn’t want to box any more, he wants to do ballet. Billy’s dad thinks that Billy is boxing, while he does ballet. At that time is it normal for girls to do ballet and for boys to do boxing.
When a boy like’s ballet the other boys call him a sissy.
Mrs. Wilkinson say’s that Billy has it in himself to do ballet. His love for music and his strength of will helps him to make his dream come true.

Mr. J. Elliot is a mineworker who has it very heavy. When there are strikes near the mines, Jackie doesn’t know what to do. His family couldn’t hardly live from his pay, now with the strikes he doesn’t know it any more. He doesn’t know what to think of ballet in the beginning. But when Billy pulls his dad over, Jackie supports Billy as much as he can.

Teny Elliot is the older brother of Billy. Teny also works in the mines with his dad Jackie. Teny leads the strikes and believes just so little in his young brother as his dad does. But when Billy is accepted at the academy for ballet, Teny changes his mind and supports his little brother too, although it is for a bit.

Mrs. Wilkinson is a ballet teacher. When she and her ballet group moved in to the half of the boxing room, her eye fell on Billy. She is the one who is learning Billy ballet. And she helps Billy with convincing other people of his talent. She is always the one who takes him to auditions and she will not rest before Billy is accepted at the academy for ballet.

Summary:

The story is playing in 1984. It’s about a labour boy Billy Elliot. He lives in the poor area in North of England. Billy is a lazy boxer, his father thinks boys should be boxing, so Billy must be a boxer to. When the ballet group from Mrs. Wilkinson begins to practise in the same room as Billy is practising, Billy gets interested in ballet. Mrs. Wilkinson ‘s eye fell right away on Billy when she saw him. At home Billy didn’t say he quit with boxing, and began with ballet. His grandmas, who has Alzheimer and lives by the family thinks that she knows what’s going on, because she once was a ballerina herself. His father and brother (Jackie & Teny) are both mine workers. When the Union decides to close the mines, Teny starts strikes with other mine workers. But when fights break out between mine workers who cooperate and mine workers who don’t, Teny went to jail for a while. Because Teny is in jail, Billy misses his first important audition. Mrs. Wilkinson goes to Billy’s home to find him. There she finds Billy, Mr. Elliot, grandma and Teny. She decides to explain why she is coming and asks Billy why he wasn’t on the auditions for the Royal Ballet Academy. Mr. Elliot says nothing when Billy explains everything, Teny went completely mad and Billy’s grandma just smiled. So the story begins about a boy named Billy Elliot who wants to make his dream reality and goes for it too.

Personal opinion:

It was a fun movie. But sometimes difficult to understand and follow. It is strange to see them at that time were different with each other An example is that Billy was not ballet.
