Class presentation about Anne Geddes
Hello Class, I’m doing my lecture-engagement about Anne Geddes. The most famous baby photographer of the world. I do my speech about Anne Geddes because I like babies and I like her pictures. I’ve got puzzles and a poster on my bedroom wall, it’s a baby and sunflowers from Anne Geddes.
Most people know Anne Geddes from her pictures with babies who are dressed like a flower or an insect. But you have more things with images from Anne Geddes like: cards, photo albums, teddy bears, calendars and notebooks. She has also an Internet site:
www.annegeddes.com. On her site you can find information about Anne and you can buy things there. Her website has more than 3 million visitors per year from more than 200 countries.
First I tell you something about her life.
Anne Geddes is born in September 1956 in Queensland, Australia. She is married with Kell and they have 2 daughters. They live in New-Zealand.
So Anne is a photographer but she is also a businesswoman and fashion designer. Kell Geddes has the responsibility for all marketing, promotion, business administration, operations, and the production of books, calendars and other items. That she is a fashion designer is very handy because she can design and make her own clothes for the baby’s to use for her shoots. She also has a baby clothing collection. She started it about 6 years ago in 2001.
Now I'm going to tell you how she got started with photography. Anne Geddes had always loved looking at photographs, but when she was still at school there were no photography classes. In those years Anne never thought about becoming a photographer herself. When she was about 20 years old she gave photography a try. She had seen the way children and babies were being photographed. Anne brought a change in the way of photographing babies.
About her studio.
Her studio is very baby friendly, all of the staff love babies, and whenever they have babies in the studio she makes sure that everything revolves around them. She has a special room which she call the ‘Mothers Room’, mothers can have their own privacy. It’s very important to Anne that they feel as special as their newborns.
You can find Anne’s work in 79 countries. She made 4 books with all her photographs. The names of the books are ‘Down in the Garden’ from 1996, Until Now in 1998, Pure from 2002 and Miracle from 2004; this book is very special because she had made it with Celine Dion, you can see 19 pictures of Celine Dion and babies in this book. Her books are sold very well in 23 different languages.
Now about Anne from 1990 to 2006 and her awards.
In 1990 she was accepted in the NZPPA (en zet pee pee ee), that means New-Zealand professional Photographers Association, which has the Annual Photographic Competition. Anne wins many Golden and Silver Merits every year. In total she has won more than 14 Golden Merits and more than 22 Silver Merits.
In 1991 she won Merits for her calendar ‘Down in the garden’: it was the most original and best colour separation. Her book ‘Down in the garden’ is the best book of the year in 1997. Anne receives the Kodak Fotobuchpreis 1998, it’s the most prestigious award for a book in Germany. In 1999 she wins the Web Award for her website. She was celebrating 10 years of the best-selling calendars in 2001. In May 2002 Anne and her husband Kell are honoured whit the Child help USA Humanitarian Award for their generous support of Child help. Anne and Kell celebrated in October 2005 the opening of their first ‘Anne Geddes’ store, located in the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, California. In 2006 here website wins the most awards.
Anne and Kell Geddes support multiple good targets like CHOC (ci eetsj oo ci) Children’s Hospital, that means Children’s Hospital at Orange Country, it’s a hospital for abused children. They also support victims from the Hurricane Katrina, they give those people clothes and food. And they give donations to people from the Asia Tsunami.
I will tell you something about the models for her pictures. She has her own models for photography. She uses a lot of people from her environment who mean a lot to her. Anne often goes to North-America to make photo’s with white and black children because there are not many black children in New-Zealand.
People often send pictures of their baby to Anne and hope that she chooses their baby for a photo shoot. But that does not happen often.
This was my lecture-engagement, I hope you all enjoined it.
