Dear Jen,

I have read that you are searching for a pen pal and that you want to know more about different cultures . I’m from Holland and I would love to tell you something about our culture and country. That’s why I’m writing you this letter.

Now I’m going to introduce myself to you. I’m a fifteen-year-old boy. My name is (Your name). I have one younger brother “Robin” who is twelve years old. We have two dogs and one cat, and we have also got an aquarium. Have you also got pets? My hobbies are surfing on the net, gardening and sleeping. I like to play “Miniconomy” which is an online trading game I’m addicted to. Can you also tell me something about your family?

I’m in the fourth grade of Senior General Secondary Education this year. I like school, and my lessons are going very fast. I like computer science very much, because it’s very interesting. I also like geography, because this is very easy for me. Last year I had very good marks. What are your favorite lessons at school?

May I ask why you like different cultures that much? I want to tell you something about a little part of our culture. We have a week at the end of April and in the beginning of May that is called the “May vacation”. I that week we have: Queen’s Day, Memorial Day and Liberation day. On 30 April we celebrate our Queen’s birthday with all kinds of orange things, like flags, caps etc. On 4 May we commemorate the people who died in WW II. On 5 May we celebrate our freedom we got at the ending of WW II. I hope I informed you a bit about the “May vacation”. What is a special thing in your culture or country?
