In ancient Greece there were many gods. People told each other stories about them. First the stories were about people, but the stories were more exaggerated. After a couple years it doesn’t were people but it was gods and half gods. Through this there came gods and goddesses.
Most people think that there only were the Olympian Gods, because that are the well-known gods, but before the Olympian gods and goddesses there were the Titan Gods. The Titans, also known as the elder gods, ruled the earth before the Olympians overthrew them. The ruler of the Titans was Cronus who was dethroned by his son Zeus. Most of the Titans fought with Cronus against Zeus and were punished by being banished to Tartarus. During their rule the Titans were associated with the various planets.

By the Titan Gods there were 20 gods, Cronus the god of the gods, Gaea the earth Goddess, Uranus the sky god, Rhea the wife of Cronus, Oceanus god of the unending stream and water, Tethys the producer of water, Hyperion the titan of the light and the sun, Mnemosyne the god of memory, Themis god of justice and order, Iapetus the leader of some gods, Coeus god of intelligence, Crius god of the underworld, Prometheus the wisest Titan gods he was able to foretell the future, Epimetheus the stupid Titan and he accepted the gift of Pandora which lead to the introduction of evil into the world, Atlas was the god of land, Metis god of the forth day and Dione the mother of Aphrodite.
Revolution
When Cronus was the top-god he wouldn’t that his children take his place, so he ate his children. Rhea (Cronus’ wife) let her youngest son (Zeus) escape, so he grew up in a cave. When he was older he wanted to kill Cronus. He did that and he was the God of everything. He divided functions. Hades got the underworld, Poseidon the sea, Demeter the goddess of the agriculture, Hera of the marriage, Hestia the goddess of the fire and families.
Olympian Gods
The Olympian Gods have their name of the mountain Olympus. The Greeks thought that the Gods and Goddesses lived there. The Olympian Gods are the most known gods of all the Greek gods. Zeus is the most important god, but there a lot of gods. Like: Aphrodite, Apollo, Athene, Hera, Pan, Hecate, Ares, Artemis. Etcetera. Everybody in Ancient Greece had an altar in his house. This was to pray to the gods. There were also a lot of temples. Every temple had an own style. Like the Corinthian style. The oldest style was the Mycenaean style. In every temple there was a sculpture of the god or goddesses, and an altar, too. On the altar the people sacrificed animals of their farm, to show too the gods that they do everything for them.
