My favourite school
My favourite school is Sevenoaks; it’s an independent boarding and day school in England.
It’s a school for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. And it’s also one of the oldest lay foundations in England, it’s found in 1432.
The head of the school is T.R. Cookson and the staff counts 100 people who work full-time and 40 part-time.
The number of pupils averages around 960, of which just over a third are boarders.
This is one of the raisons why I choose this school because if you live further away you can stay at school and don’t have to go home every day. And there will be children from all over England or other countries so you can meet a different kind of people.
Day school fees are around £3,090 and boarding fees are around £5,073. The fees are a disadvantage because they are high, but that’s also because it’s a good school, you get value for your money.
Sevenoaks has a reputation for innovation. It was the first independent school to devote some time to Community service. And it’s also one of the few schools in Britain to teach exclusively for the International Baccalaureate diploma in the sixth form. But that’s not all; a lot of pupils take GCSEs in more than one European language. You can chose between Japanese, Mandarin, Dutch, Norwegian, Russian and Hindi. And that’s the main raison that I choose this school because you can learn different languages. There aren’t many schools were you can learn foreign languages and also were you can get your International Baccalaureate diploma.
Almost all of their Sixth form leavers go on to university and a fifth of them go on to Oxbridge. So Sevenoaks must be a very good school with a high level of education.
The school has also high standards in sport, particularly tennis, rugby and sailing. Ian Walker, a famous sailor, went also to Sevenoaks. It encourages pupils to develop into healthy young adults. The pupils need physical exercises because it keeps them healthy and it helps them to relax. Not in each school you have the possibility to learn and sport. And that’s not all; the school is also active in music, drama and art, so you can express yourself
In February 2001, the inspection said: ”Sevenoaks is a very good school. Some very high attainment in GCSE. Oral fluency strong at all levels.” So the inspection found it a very good school.
For enter the school you have to do a common Entrance exam and own exam.
So that’s why I choose Sevenoaks, it’s a very good school with a high level of education and good reference. There is a lot of variety, you can for example learn foreign languages, play tennis and rugby and study art.
