Our presentation is about: Aids dicrimination.

Imagine what it would be like if no one at school would talk to you. What if no one would sit near you in class or use the locker next to yours? What if people avoided you in the hallway? How would you feel if people were afraid to touch or hug you, or called your names? If you were infected with the AIDS virus, this might be the way you would be treated.

Many men, women and children infected with the AIDS virus are given love and support by their families and friends. But thousands more become alienated as a result of their disease. They are rejected by friends, family and coworkers.
AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It's deadly because it attacks and kills those cells in the immune system that help a person healthy.

Those cells are called helper T-cells. Once AIDS is inside the helper T-cells, the virus begins to multiply. The virus kills the cells. You might think that if a person is infected with the AIDS virus, he would get sick right away. But the AIDS virus destroys the T-cells slowly.

Is it against the law to dicriminate someone, because he has AIDS? Yes it is against the law to treat you unfairly because you are living with AIDS or someone thinks you are living with AIDS. Employers can't fire you if you have AIDS if you can do your job savely and effectively.

When you have AIDS, you have to get good services from everybody everywhere. It is also against the law to treat you unfairly, because you have a co-worker or a friend who has AIDS. If this happens to you, you can get in touch with an anti-discrimination board. If someone discriminate you, he can be arrested.

More than 40 million people in the world today are living with AIDS. 95% live in the Global South. In 2000, about 5 million people around the world became newly infected with AIDS, 600,000 of them were children. Every day there are about 15.000 people who get infected by aids.

There are many fight-foundations. They advertise how to fight against AIDS, but also against AIDS-discrimination. You can get posters and little folders. You can also call the AIDS-telephone. Every year on December the first there is a world AIDS day. . On that day there are all kinds of actions to collect money. The money they collect is used to warn people and to help people in the poor countries.

One organisation is Artists against AIDS worldwide. They made a song for the people who have AIDS. the money they collected, goes to all the patients who have AIDS. We will let you hear the song after our presentation.
We think that AIDS discrimination is very bad, because the people with AIDS are ill and we should help them, so not discriminate.

This was our presentation, we hope you enjoyed it. We have a little thing for you. It's this, it's the sign of AIDS, we hope you like it. Thank you for listening.
