Cats
It's not sure when cats became domestic animals , but we know that they lived already live 10000 jears on this planet.
When the man humans became agrarian they had to keep their foodstock save. They kept it in barracks but their were mice. And than came the cats , they ate all the mice and the people kept them.
In Egypt cats were very popular. They even became the symbol of fertilety as the god " Bastet ".
All over Egupt there were drawings of them. If you ever hurt a cat , you get punished. If you kild one , you get deadpenealty.
For a dead cat , people mournd. They shaved their eyebrows off to show their affliction. Cats were mostly mummificated and buried in a box of bronze or wood.
Their devine cult had also his disadvantage. For example : they were used as sacrefice for the gods. In Benni Hassan , archaelogists found over 30.000 sacrificed body's of cats.
Saliors also had cats to protect their foodstock. Thats the reason why some people think that cats came to Europe around that period and later also to other places in the world like America.
Cats were first very loved in Europe but then ...
Then was the time of the Christians , the church was the boss and ereryone listened to them. They thought that cats were the domestic animals of witches.
And witches were bad.
They became the symbol of the evil. People hated them and they burned them.
Even the church did that. After a while their were almost no cats left. But mice , there were plenty of them. And that's one of the causes of the plague in 1334.
the " black dead " killed thousends of people in whole Europe.
Than the people started to realise that it was their own fault , they had killed all the cats.
From that time they let them live , more and more cats came and they killed the mice.
At the end of the 17e century , everyone had a cat.
In Asia it was very different. They have their own temples their where they can live in. They kept the mice from the holy books but also from the silkcocoons , because silkcocoons are very important for the economy.
In Siam , the former Thailend , there was a period that only kings and their famely may have a cat. The saimese cat was well-known as " the royal cat of Siam ". Now we all know them as the Siamese cats.
A myth about cats is that they have nine lives. It's a little bit true. As cats fall , the fall on their paws. But if a car drives over them , then they are mostly dead.
