Dartmoor and environs

L Location

Dartmoor is located in in the Southwestern county of England. Its a bleak plateau in Devonshire, noted for its wild expanse of moor. It contains little cultivation, and only the more elevated regions can be traversed by a few rough tracks.

Guided walks
The Teignbridge Ranger Service look after 30 or more countryside sites and walking routes throughout Teignbridge District (outside Dartmoor National Park). These include meadows, marshes, heaths, woods, streams and sand dunes. Each year the Rangers provide a programme of guided walks and events to help people get to know the local sites and enjoy what they have to offer. Examples include spring and summer wildlife walks, family bike rides, woodland adventures, bug hunts, historical trails, wildlife safaris, management walks and a number of events exclusively for children. If you would like more information on the yearly guided walks and events programme then contact the Rangers at the Teignbridge District Council Offices on 01626 215756 who will send you a leaflet.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Short Biography
Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Arthur Conan Doyle was born to a family of Roman Catholics in Edinburgh, in 1859. After the war, in 1902, Doyle returned to England and was knighted by King Edward VII knighted Conan Doyle for services rendered to the Crown during the Boer War. He then took up the pen again for the revered detective and published The Hound of the Baskervilles, a prequel, in 1902. Arthur Conan Doyle died on Monday, July 7, 1930, surrounded by his family. His last words before departing for "the greatest and most glorious adventure of all," were addressed to his wife. He whispered, "You are wonderful."
