5> Is It Real or a Fake? 6> Conclusion The Lake We are talking about the lake Loch Ness. Loch Ness is a part of the Great Glenn and it’s one of Europe’s great lakes. And it is by all odds the most mysterious lakes in the world. The lake is in the middle of Scotland, in the area of Highland. The lake is about 40km long and 1,5km wide and at some places it’s 230m deep. The lake is one of the largest and deepest lakes in Scotland. It’s 15m above sealevel. The water in the lake is comming from 8 different rivers and 40 smaller streems. The area around the lake is beautiful, it’s surrounded by rugged mountains and forests and fields. Close to the lake there’s a 800 years old castle ruin called Urquhart Castle. The castle was one of the biggest castles in Scotland. Unfortunately the castle was destroyed in 1692. Now it’s a very populair place for tourists. Every day hundreds of people come to this place. Near the lake there is also a memorial stone for John Cobb, who died in 1952 in the lake. Here’s how he died: He wanted to be the fastes man of the world. So he went very fast with a boat on the water. Then he crashed. Before he died on the lake he had a speed of 331km a hour. The Monster Of Loch Ness. How it all began: The stories, legends, myths you hear are all very old. It all began in 565. A Irish priest saw a satanic creature that rose above the water. With powerfull spells he sent the creature back in the depts of the lake. Fore ever......he thought. But Nessie seems to apear from time to time, so they say.
The question is, is it real or a fake?
Nobody is sure that Nessie is alive.
Some people say that the creature is a monster, but others say it’s a prehistorical reptile that is called the plesiosaurus.
Those animals lived from 205 untill 65 million years ago.
Scientists who believe the monster is really alive, gave him a latin name: Nessitera Rhombopteryx
From 565 there are thousend observations of people who think they have seen Nessie. But in 1933 the rumor that there was a monster in the lake came in the journal. The modern story also starts in 1933, when miss and mister MacKays came back to their house in Drumnadorchit. They saw a enormous creature in the water. They discribed the animal having a long, tapering neck, about 6 feet long and a smallish head with a serpentine look about it and a huge hump behind. This was the begin when people really thought there was a monster in the lake. Why is it zo hard to investigate that the monster is alive? 1> The lake is very deep The lake is a lot deeper then the Northsea. The lake is about 132m deep, but at some places 230m. 30 years ago some one discovered that in the middle of the lake there is a canyon of 260m deep! 2> The water is dirty the water comes from 8 different rivers and 40 smaller streams. The bottom is covered with thick layer of mud. It is impossible to draw a net over it. And you can’t see much. 3> The weather changes often the surface of the lake can change rapitly from a quiet mirror to high waves, that can carry the water up to 50cm. 4> It is hard to take pictures there is a good view from the North site. But then you have a strong reflextion. The steep sites of the lake make it hard to get near the water. The monster disapears quikly Nessie always is seen only for a view minutes. Small noises can frighten him, before you can make a good picture he’s gone. IS IT REAL OR A FAKE? Time to time people claim to have seen Nessie. There are a lot of pictures made over the years, but are they real or a fake? Hugh Gray was the first one who fotgraphed the beast in 1933. He claims “ I immediately got my camera ready and snapt the object which was then 2 to 3 feet above the serves of the water. I did not see any head for what I took to be the front parts were under the water, but there was considerable movement from what seemd to be the tail. In 1934 there were a couple of hunters who made huge footsteps and than they said that they saw the monster crawling on to the land. And here you see a pictere that is made in 1951 were there is proven that it’s a fake. These are 3 lumps that are made from straw and that is coffered with a dark sheet. But if you ask me it looks more like a hippo. This foto was the most fameous of them all. This picture is made by Colonel Robert Wilson in 1934. Christian Sperlings later admitted that he had taken part in a hoax. He made his confession on his death bed in 1993 when he was 90 years old. He tolt how he made the monster. The Monster was a 14inch toy submarine and plastic wood. Robert Rines made a picture were you can see the flipper of the beast in 1974. If it’s real they don’t know. The first moving film was made by an aeronautical enigineer, Tim Dinsdale in 1960. The film may not have convinced the world, but Tim gave up his job, and spent the next twenty years trying to prove they existed. He never got prove.
