2. What’s the title of the book: Island of the Blue Dolphins
3. Who’s the publisher: Longman
4. What’s the book about:
The Aleut ship came on a spring morning. Karana and her brother Ramo had never seen a ship before. It was a ship with red sails. The ship could bring good things to the Island, but also trouble. The ship entered the harbour and Karana’s father, the chief stept forward. There came six Aleuts (they were Russians) to the chief. They said that they where going to hunt the otter. They agreed that the chief and his tribe would have half the furs and Captain Orlov and the Aleuts the other half of it.
The Indians watched the Aleuts every day and counted the otter that the Aleuts had catched.
Ulape, Karana’s sister found many fish one day. The fish was stranded on the rocks. The Indians took the fish to their village. Next morning two Aleuts came to the village. They said that they wanted fish too. No, said the chief. The Aleuts left. Captain Orlov didn’t pay for the furs. Captain Orlov wanted to leave the Island. And Captain Orlov was now talking to the chief. The chief said that Orlov had not paid enough. Then the Aleuts killed the chief. A battle began. The Aleuts killed 27 men.
Kimki became the new leader of the tribe. He went over the sea to find new land. And when he got there he would come to get us. Kimki did not return.
But one day there came a ship with white people. The Indians all went into the ship because the white men said that Kimki had sent them. Kimki wasn’t in the ship himself. But when Karana was in the ship she saw that Ramo was still on the Island. She jumped into the water. The ship left without them.
One day Ramo got killed by wild dogs. Karana was now alone. Karana killed some wild dogs but she couldn’t get the leader of the pack. One day she got the leader and she almost killed him. He was hit by her spear. Karana took care of the dog and they became friends. She called him Rontu.
Then the ship with the Aleuts came back. Karana hid herself. Then an Aleut-girl found her. They became friends. After the summer the ship left again.
Many years later Rontu died. Karana took a new dog. Rontu-Aru. It means: son of Rontu. She was sure that he was.
One day there came an other ship. They left after an hour.
Karana knew then that she would never wanted to be alone any more.
And if an other ship came she would go with them. The ship with the white men came back. She went with them to Santa Barbara with her dog Rontu-Aru.
