She had another sister but she died.

Charlo:
His real name is Charles Spencer.
He has been married with Paula before she threw him out.
Paula:”so I had my identikit of him before I ever saw him; a brown-eyed ride with scars and a record and his mickey thrown over his schoulder and that was exactly what I got.”
He has been in prison in St. Pat for three months for robbing the lead off the roof of an old house in Kinsealy.
Robbing is in his and in his family’s blood
Paula met him in a disco and she fell for him literally and a few years they got married.
And then the trouble started.
He began to beat her up and she has taken it for a long while.
“He did love me.I know. He proved it again and again. It was just something in him.A bit of something that turned bad. Charlo was an angry man.The temper was just always there, underneath.”
Charlo built houses but after all the houses in Dublin were built he got out of work.

My opinion
For a year ago I began to like to read in English.
Before then I saw the reading really as a excersise but now I read also books for myself in English, not only for school.
And I liked to read in the book of Roddy Doyle.
The language is easy and he writes short sentences.
When I began to read in this book I didn’t quite understand what it was about.
It begins in the present but with flashbacks you get to know what happened in the past.
Through the flashbacks the book becomes never boring but you got to keep attention to follow the story.
In the beginning it really fun to read al the good and bad memories she brings up again about her youth but the last fifty pages are only about Charlo beating her up.
It becomes not boring but it makes you feel depressed.
I think when you make a shorter version of that piece that tragedic and emotional effect shall disappaer.
I think that Roddy Doyle the feelings of a beaten up woman verygood describes.
And I would recommend this book to others and like to read more books of his hand.

Evaluation of working in a group
I worked with Jurre, Marleen and Nienke.
The first lesson we got this project we have divided the instructions.
And I had to write about the caracters.
We worked a little in the class but mostly we discusted the book.
We have all made the things we had to do and we’ve put that together and see, our common bookreview.
