Main characters of the book "Animal Farm"
-Mr Jones was the owner of the farm, but the animals overwon him, so he left. Once he tried to get his farm back. but the animals won again.

-Old Major he tells the animals the principles of Animalism, so he unchained the whole rebellion, but he dies before the rebellion starts.

-Snowball he starts the rebellion and is the leader, he's a good leader.

-Napoleon is the other leader but chases Snowball away after a while, he is a bad leader.

-Squealer was a sort of messager of Napoleon.

-Boxer was a very hard working but stupid horse, he said all the time "I will work harder" and after a while "Napoleon is always right", but he dies too.

-Clover was Boxer's 'wife'.

-Benjamin was a monkey and he kept himself to himself, he was a friend of Boxer.

I don't like Napoleon because he abuses his power, I don't like Squealer either because he walks after Napoleon and does everything Napoleon sais.
I do like Snowball, he wanted to work out Animalism on the right way.

My opinion about the book "Animal Farm"
I liked the story very much. George Orwell did very well describe the communism in the future. It maybe not really ended as in the book, but the communistic countries gone the same direction as the story after 1945.Sometimes, I liked the way the author described things, very detailed, very punctually. But sometimes it was not good for the story because he was just describing some things when I thought that the story just had to go on a little quicker.

What's the thought behind the book?
Ik ga in een brief aan een vriend schrijven watb ik van het boek vind, d.m.v. de gebeurtenissen in het boek, en wat de realiteit is.
Vlodrop, June 19th 2001,

Dear John,
I recently read the book "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. It's a book about a farm, which is controled by a very mean owner. As a reaction of the cruelty of the owner, the animals started a revolution on, what they thought, was their farm. The wanted justice, and an environment, where everybody was treaten equally. The same happened during the Russian revolution, when the people got rid of king Nicolas. Now the place of the king is the same as the position of Mr. Jones, so the animals got rid of him also.
After they defeated their mean owner, the animals stardet a society, in which everybody was treaten equally, and where they worked together on a bright future, for every animal.
What the animals didn't know, was that Napoleon, a very mean pig, had several dogs. He waited with his dogs, and trained them, so the could take over the farm, at a moment, when the time was right.
Napoleon abused his power, and got control of the farm. The first thing he did, was get rid of the horse Boxer, who was a very stupid horse, but had a very friendly personality. He thought that everything what Napoleon said was right. I really fealt sorry for Boxer, when he was transported, to the, so I believe, sauccage fabric.
Napoleon abused it's power in an other way too. He started a society, where everybody was equeal, but some animals where more equal then others (...). Those animals where the pigs of course.
You can lay the link between Napoleon and Stalin very quickly, if you know something about Russia after the revolution.
I really fealt sorry for the other animals on the farm. ‘cause they had to work very hard. But I was relieved, when they started a revolution against the pigs. The won the battle, and the donkey Snowball ended up as the great leade, he was the one who never interfered but saw everything what happened.
Because I saw the movie, I really wanted to read the book. Now I've read it, I have to say that I like the movie better than the film, beacause it's more realistic then reading a book. But I think that's just the atitude of young people against books, they always say that they like movies better, but I think that people who say that, just haven't got a good imagination.
When I had to give the book a mark, I'd give it a 8 (B+ I think), and the movie a 9(A).

Yours,
Niels
