My Uncle Oswald door Roald Dahl
‘ I’m a smart pupil’ Oswald wrote about himself. This book is written by Roald Dahl. The story is about a man called Oswald Cornelius Esquire telling about his own life, you could call it a diary. Oswald was 17 years old; he gave a good-bye party, when his dad decided that he had to go to France, to learn more of that language. He wanted to aim for a million pound before he turned 30 years old. He met a man, suppose to be a friend of his dad, called Major Grout, he told him about an insect in Sudan called blister beetle, the powder that this insect produces, gives an effect like Viagra, but 10 times stronger, he calles it professor yousoppof’s potency pills. Oswald went to France, like his dad told him to. After he arrived in France, he went to Sudan, bought the powder and made pills of this powder. He earned a lot of money by selling them to rich people. Oswald went back to England and joined the university Cambridge. He met the chemistry tutor of the university, called Arthur R. Woresley, they have become friends and Oswald trusted him and told him about the blister beetle pills. Mr. Woresley told Oswald that he found a way to freeze sperm. Oswald decided to earn more money by selling sperm of rich man, by using the blister beetle pills and an attractive woman. They used Yasmin Howcomely, a biology student. They’ve made a storage place for the sperm called ‘the semen’s home’. After they collected the semen of every man on their list, they took a month break. When Oswald came back to ‘the semen’s home’ he found a note where Mr. Woresley & Yasmin said that they got married and got away with the collected semen. Oswald couldn’t do anything about that and accepted that. He started a factory in Sudan, selling blister beetle pills; he became millionaire before he turned 30 years old. The cousin of Oswald published the diary. It was a pleasant book.
First of all the structure was chronological, the diary started in 1910 and ended around 1934. The way Roald Dahl formulated the whole story and made it very easy to read, although there were a lot of pages. There were 200 pages.
The theme caught my attention too it was about making money. Oswald, who does almost everything to earn a million pound before he gets 30 years old, the way he earned the money, by selling blister beetle pills and selling sperm.
The characters were very convincing, such as uncle Oswald, he could have existed, there are a lot of people in the world who only think about money and use people to aim for money. Mr. Woresly, a chemistry tutor could invent something like freezing sperm or something similar to that. Yasmin, a pretty and smart girl who earns money by seducing other men for money, that’s very common too, in books and films I mean.
The structure of the book was chronological and written so it was easy to read, the theme caught my attention, characters were very convincing. I enjoyed reading this book.
