1. Leg de titel uit in minimaal 3 zinnen.
Stephen en Anna gaan samen op vakantie naar Polreath. Daar ontmoeten ze de eigenaar van hun gehuurde huisje, een vissersman genaamd Tristan. Als Stephen twee dagen erna word weggeroepen voor zijn werk, begint Anna Tristan steeds beter te leren kennen. Het gaat zo ver dat Anna en Tristan een kleine affaire krijgen.
2. Give me the names of the people in the story and characterize (geef hun karaktereigenschappen weer, bijvoorbeeld: social mean, annoying, loving, sweet) their personalities. For example: jack is a social, sweet but sometimes an irritating man. (Use your dictionary).
Anna Martins: aged thirty, is a warm, open, lively woman. She is a nurse. She married to Stephan for ten years. She lives in London.
Stephan Martins: aged thirty-two, is social, calm man. He works for an advertising agency. Lives in London. He married to Anna for ten years.
Tristan Goddard: Just about thirty. Lives and works in Polreath as a fisherman. He runs a boat for visitors in the summer. He is the owner of Dolphin Cottage.
Jill: The girlfriend of Tristan, she looks pretty. At the confrontation break Tristan and Jill up. You don’t know her very well.
3. Welk persoon uit het boek lijkt het meest op jou en waarom?
Tristan: Ook al is hij een man, qua innerlijk lijkt hij het meest op mij. hij weet wat hij wilt en staat open voor opties. Hij is eerlijk en sociaal.
4. Welke scene uit het boek zou je herschrijven en waarom? (minimaal 5 zinnen)
Ik zou de laatste scene herschrijven, want het hele verhaal is super uitgebreid Alles word uitgebreid omschreven. Maar op het einde gaat het opeens super snel. Het is ook een open eind en ik heb echt een hekel aan open einden!
5. Heb je wel eens gehoord van symbolisme? Dat is als er in een verhaal gebruik wordt gemaakt van een concreet iets (bijvoorbeeld een hartje) wat abstract wordt gemaakt (staat voor liefde). Een ander voorbeeld: “bad”guy gaat het in het zwart gekleed (zwart staat voor negatief en voor het slechte in de mens) en heeft een zwarte zonnebril op (je mag zijn ogen niet zien, hij heeft iets te verbergen). (let maar eens op hoe bad guys in een film eruit zien…) Is er gebruik gemaakt van symbolisme in jou boek? Geef voorbeelden.
De zee: het oneindige. Het ontdekken van jezelf, je grenzen vergeven en het bedenken van wat je echt wilt. Het oneindige verklaard ook het open eind.
6. Where did the story take place? (For example: Near the sea, or in an old house)
The story did take place on Polreath. Near to the sea and a white beach. They hired an old cottage named Dolphin Cottage. It was from the grandmother of Tristan. He rents it to tourist.
7. Suppose (stel je voor) you are a journalist, and you review books (je beoordeelt boeken) you have to write a review of the book you read. Give your opinion and say what and why you think the book is ok, funny, boring, excellent, stupid etc etc. In the review should also be a short summary of the book including you opinion.
Anna and Stephan are married for ten years. They take a holiday break in a seaside village to escape the stress of London. They both love the place. After their arrival, they make a new friend, the owner of their hired cottage, Tristan.
Anna and Stephan are having a great time at Polreath. They love the place!
One day Tristan asks them to come fishing with him. Anna rejects the offer, but Stephan says yes. The next day Stephan and Tristan go fishing. When they are back, Anna tells Stephan that his work called him. Stephan calls back to his work and they said that he has to come back for two days.
He forgot to tell Anna that he invited Tristan to dinner. In the evening Tristan visits the Dolphin Cottage because he was invited. Quickly Anna cooks dinner for the both of them. They have a great time together. Then they kiss each other. Anna decides not to tell Steven about, who is coming back the next day.
The next day Jill was visiting Tristan. She was comeback to officially say goodbye to Tristan. Anna is very curious about Jill.
A couple of days after that Jill arrived Is the holiday ending, Stephan is staying at Polreath and Anna goes to London. Because they wanted to buy the Cottage. But the next morning she decided, she doesn’t want to live in Polreath. Than called Stephan:
‘Anna, I’ve just seen Tristan. He’s just told me something. We’ve to talk.’
Anna’s heart froze.
It’s a very good vacation-book. It’s fast to read also it is easy to read. And for dislikes for open ends, like me, is the end disappointing.
