Samenvatting Tribes

Kevin and his family moved to a part of town Kevin doesn’t know. There are a few gangs in this part of town. Kevin thinks the gangs are stupid and he would never join one of them. His father thinks the gangs are stupid too. Kevin’s parents are fond of line dancing. They call themselves Don Diablo and Honey Sue when they are line dancing. His sister Glory is very naïve. Kevin’s only friend is Tommy, who isn’t in a gang too. Kevin is followed by a gang called the Rebels at a night. He doesn’t know why because he had done nothing to them. But then he got saved by a gang called the Tribe. The Tribe is the most famous gang in the town, the name is written all over the town at walls. Kevin became friends with the leader of the Tribe, Salom. Kevin still thinks the gangs are stupid. The he sees that Torry, one of the Tribe, is circled by the Rebels. Kevin saved Torry and Torry is very happy. Torry says that Kevin could become one of Tribe. The members of the Tribe would vote for him. But Kevin still doesn’t want to join a gang. His naïve sister wants Kevin to join the Tribe because she thinks the Tribe is the best. She wants to be in the Tribe too but they don’t let girls in. Glory knows the initiation tests of almost all the gangs but doesn’t know the initiation test of the Tribe. Kevin says he will find out what it is to join the Tribe. Then he will tell it to everybody. He says it to Tommy too. Kevin says to Salom that he will join the Tribe. The members of the Tribe are Salom, Torry and Doc. Kevin thinks Doc doesn’t like him. Salom is Torry’s hero. He is taken to an old warehouse. He must walk over a small beam to the other side. This initiation test is called ‘the Walk of Death’. Kevin is very scared but he makes it. The feeling is amazing when he has made it. But then he knows he can’t tell to everyone what he initiation test is. Glory and Tommy asked Kevin what the initiation test is but he lies to them. Kevin heard about Stash, who felt in the warehouse. But nobody knows what happened. Kevin hangs more and more around with the Tribe and forgets his past best friend Tommy. Kevin’s parents are going to line dance in the shopping mall. Kevin and Glory are very embarrassed. They promised to their parents that they will support them. Kevin tells Salom and Salom says the Tribe will be in the shopping mall with Kevin. Glory thinks the Tribe will make trouble. But the Tribe doesn’t the Rebels do. They throw marbles between the line dancers and the dancers fell. The Tribe members help the line dances and chasing marbles and the day becomes a lot of fun. Kevin invited Salom at his home because his mum and dad want to. They think Salom is a nice boy. Kevin doesn’t want to revenge the Rebels but the other members of the Tribe will. Kevin gives it up. They will revenge. Salom has a plan. They catch McAfee, the leader of the Rebels and the one who hates Salom. Kevin can decide what they will do with him. Kevin decides to lock him in a very smelly toilet. They tell the other Rebels and they set McAfee free later. Kevin’s parents aren’t happy with the fact that Kevin is in the Tribe. Since Kevin has joined the Tribe, he doesn’t care a lot of school now and his parents noticed. The Tribe planned to get a day of from school at a day. Kevin has doubts but he can’t refuse. It becomes the best day of his life. Kevin goes with Salom to his house. He meets the parents of Salom. Salom calls them ‘the family form hell’. His mother seems very nice but Salom thinks she is too nice and that becomes annoying. Salom’s father is always drunk. When Kevin wants to go home, a strange woman says to him that Salom has an evil eye. Kevin’s parents aren’t happy when he gets home. They knew what he has done. Then Kevin hears of Tommy that the Rebels have his sister Glory at the peer. They release Glory and they leave McAfee for Salom. Glory is in love with Salom and cants stop talking about him. Kevin let her go at home and hides himself. He sees that Salom is very cruel to McAfee and lets him fell of the peer but McAfee can’t swim. Kevin has never seen Salom as evil like that. Doc comes between and tells Salom to stop. They don’t know Kevin has seen it all. Kevin asks to Salom what he was doing with McAfee. Salom says that Doc did what Kevin knew Salom did. Salom lies. Torry says the same thing. Kevin hears of him that Doc is in the hospital. He fell of the stairs. Kevin thinks it is Salom that did it. Kevin is going to visit Doc in the hospital. They talked and Doc tells Kevin that he doesn’t know if it was Salom who let him fall. Doc says getting out of the Tribe is as hard as getting in. You must do the Walk of Death again. Kevin says to Doc that he wants to leave the Tribe but he doesn’t want to do the Walk of Death again. Kevin goes to Salom and says he had seen everything at the peer. He says he wants to leave the Tribe. But Salom says Kevin have to do the Walk of Death again. Then they were fighting and Kevin leaves Salom’s house. Kevin is relieved he isn’t still one of the Tribe. He invites Tommy at his house and tells him that he had left the Tribe. Tommy says he saw Salom and Glory. Kevin is frightened because Salom wants revenge at Kevin. Kevin knows Salom lets Glory do the Walk of Death. When he and Tommy go to the warehouse, they meet the Rebels. The Rebels want to fight but Kevin told them he will let them see the initiation test of the Tribe and they come along with them. When they were in the warehouse, they see Glory and Salom. Glory is already halfway the Walk of Death. Kevin saves her and Salom is never seen again.
