The reason why the book is called Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone is because the story is about a boy called Harry Potter, we are following the hole book. He is the main character. The philosopher's stone is a stone which can make you immortal. Lord Voldemort (also known as "you-know-who" or "he who must not be named") wants to have that stone, because if he has the stone he can be the must powerful wizard ever and he then will have eternal life. Harry Potter and his friends are going to stop Lord Voldemort to get the stone in his possession.

5. Where and when does the story take place?
The story takes place nowadays in England, in Surrey. And of course; at Hogwarts. Harry’s school. But where his school is... Nobody knows.

6. Plot Outline- Summarize the story
Harry Potter is a boy. But he's not an ordinary boy; He's a wizard and he is famous! When Harry Potter was one year old his parents died by a dreadful curse. Because for a reason nobody knows Harry Potter survives this curse. Because of that, he is famous ‘cause nobody else ever survived the curse.
He has to live at his aunt Petunia and his uncle Vernon (the Dursley's). He grows up with his nephew (Dudley) but he’s not very happy. His nephew Dudley gets everything he wants but Harry cannot do anything right.
One day a letter arrives for Harry. He can’t open it, because his uncle makes sure he can't read it. But from that moment, the letters keep coming for Harry. His uncle thinks that if they leave home the people who are sending those mysterious letters will stop doing that. But how wrong can he be...very wrong.
The night of Harry's 10st birthday they are on a little rock in the sea in a little hut. Then a stranger comes into the hut. He is telling Harry that he's a wizard and that his parents didn't die in a carcrash like his aunt and uncle always said but that they died by an terrible curse, spoken by Lord Voldemort. He tells Harry that he can come to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To learn everything about magic.
The strangers name is Rubeus Hagrid (but everybody calls him Hagrid) and he is the keeper of keys of Hogwarts.
Harry Potter leaves the Dursleys behind and goes with Hagrid. They buy all the stuff that he needs at the Diagon Alley. They go to Gringotts: the wizards bank. Harry picks up his money at the bank, but Hagrid has to pick up something else. That package lies in a save volt. It's a really small package and although Harry tries to guess what's in there, he has know idea.
When Harry arrives at school a boy (called Draco Malfoy) tells him that he (Harry) has to join him, because Malfoy thinks that only "pure-blood" families are good. Harry refuses and he becomes friends with Ronald Weasley. From that moment on Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter are sworn enemies.
From the very first time Harry meets his potions master (Severus Snape) he knows that his Potions master hates him.
At his first flying lesson, Harry realises that he finally has found something that he is good at. By accident he's coming into the Quidditch team of Gryffindor. (the house of Harry. There are four different houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuf, Ravenclaw and Slytherin) Quidditch is a sport for wizards, played on broomsticks. Harry becomes a seaker. He has to make sure he catches the snitch before the other team does. If he does, they win.
Draco Malfoy asks if Harry wants to duel with him. Harry agrees and that night he and Ron are going to the place where the duel takes place. On there way to the duel they meat Hermione Granger (a girl from their class). She says to them that they musn’t be going to Malfoy because if they get caught it will cost them a lot of bad points for there house. She is going with them. Then they meet Neville. He has forgotten the password of their house and he can’t come in their room. Neville is going with them also. When they’re on their way they almost get caught and they run quickly into a room they don’t know. In that room is a three headed dog wich is standing on a trapdoor. He is guarding something.
When it is Halloween professor Quirrel (teacher Defence Against the Dark Arts, with a strange turban on his head) storms in when the hole school is having diner. There's a troll in the dungeon. All the students are going to their room but Harry and Ron are also going to the dungeon. Hermione Granger has locked herself in the toilets. She was very upset, because Ron told her that everybody thinks she is annoying and that she doesn't have any friends. The troll is in the toilet where Hermione is and Harry and Ron succeed in defeating the troll. And from that moment on Hermione is their friend.
A few days later Harry sees that Severus Snape’s leg is wounded. Harry, Ron and Hermione think that he was trying (at the night of Halloween) to come by the three headed dog and that he let the troll in as a way of distraction.
From Hagrid they learn that something underneath the trapdoor is made by Nicolas Flamel. After a lot of searching they find out that Nicolas Flamel is the inventor of the Philosopher’s Stone. Now they know that the three headed dog is guarding the Philosopher’s Stone and they think that Severus Snape is trying to steal the Stone for Lord Voldemort so he can get his old powers back. But Harry, Ron and Hermione decide that they are going to stop him.
At one night they’re going through the trapdoor and they have to survive very extremely, dangerous tests. At last, Harry comes to the room where the Philosopher’s Stone is. But in that room there’s another person then he expects. It isn’t Severus Snape. It is professor Quirrel.
Professor Quirrel asks him to look into the mirror of Erised (turn the word and you get: desire) If you look into that mirror you can see what you want the most and if you see what you really want, but you’re not gonna use it for your own good, you will get it. Harry looks into the mirror and he sees himself putting the stone is his pocket. At the same moment Harry feels that something heavy is landing in his pocket. He’s got the stone in his possession without even knowing how he did that. Quirrel asks him what he sees but Harry is lying to him. Then Harry hears a strange voice. That voice asks to talk to Harry. Professor Quirrel undoes his turban. Underneath there is the face of Lord Voldemort. He says to Quirrel that has to kill Harry but for some reason Quirrel can’t. Professor Quirrel dies. Harry wins and professor Dumbledore (the headmaster) destroys the stone. Harry, Ron and Hermoine have succeeded in saving the Philosopher’s Stone!

7. Describe the main characters as detailed as you can
Harry Potter: He’s a brave boy but shy. He stands up for his friends and he wants to fight for the good.
Ron Weasley: He is also very brave, but sometimes he is jealous at Harry because he gets so much attention.
Hermione Granger: She always thinks she knows everything best which can be very annoying, but she has her heart on the right place.

8. Are there any minor characters that are important to the story?
Rubeus Hagrid: He is a very good person. He is very sweat and he does everything for everybody.
Severus Snape: He is very partial for his own house. He is contrived.
Lord Voldemort: He wants that everybody follows him. He wants to be a ruler of the world.

9. Is the story divided into chapters? If so, how many?
The book is divided into seventeen chapters.

10. Whose point of view is presented
The book is written in the third person. It is narrative.

11. Describe one scene from the book that moved/shocked/struck you: What exactly happens? (describe in detail) Mention the pages describing the scene. Why did this scene moved/shocked/struck you?

The scene that really struck me was the scene that professor Quirrel storms into the Great Hall and tells that there’s a troll in the dungeons. All the students have to go to their dormitories, but Harry tells Ron that Hermione doesn’t know about the troll. She has locked herself in the toilets, because she and Ron had a fight earlier that day. Harry and Ron decide to go to the toilets but when they arrive at the toilets, the troll is there also. Harry and Ron think that they can lock the troll in a room but what they don’t know is that they lock the troll in the toilets where Hermione is. The troll is know trying to attack Hermione but fortunately Harry and Ron come in the toilets and they save her. And from that moment on Harry, Ron and Hermione are friends, because some things you just can’t do without being each others friends and knocking out a troll is one of them.
This scene struck me because it was written very exciting. I never thought that Harry, Ron and Hermione would be friends. Especially not Hermione and Ron, because they are most of the time wrangling.
This part begins on page 127 and it stops on page 132.

12. Did you like the story? Why (not)?
I liked the book a lot, because it is written with a lot of humor in it. The writer also can make some parts of the book scary. I liked the characters. You can really imagine what the characters are going trough. You never know what will happen on the next page. I always like that.
