Hello, this is my book report for English of the book Eldest.

Information
Eldest is 681 pages thick, and is written by the writer Christopher Paolini. It is the second part of a series named Alagaësia, after the mythical land where the story is situated. I have red the first part named Eragon too. I think the book is written for people of thirteen years to people of one hundred years old, but you must love science fiction, or else you probably have more fun while burning the book, in stead of reading it.
I think that the writer wanted me to enter his world full of fantasy and action. A world I think every man, woman and child sometimes dreams of taking a part in it.
Christopher Paolini loves science fiction. That’s why he wrote Eragon, and Eldest. He is twenty three years old, and he is living with his parents and sister in Paradise Valley in Montana. Eldest, and Eragon (the first part) are both bestsellers.

Summary
Now I’m going to tell you what the book is about.
First I’m going to tell you about the first book, because else you probably don’t understand my summary, and because I have to do it anyway.

In the history, even before the first book, dragon riders kept peace in Alagaësia. But then suddenly a dragon rider named Galbatorix killed most dragon riders, and became the cruel king of Alagaësia with an evil urgal army, that still rules the land in the present.
Eragon became suddenly a dragon rider when his stone/egg hatched. He named the dragon Saphira, and they’ve become best friends. Unexpectedly soldiers of the Empire killed his father. Since that day he’s determent to defeat the empire. He has joined the Varden (a group of around 10.000 men, women and children who are enemies of the empire) in their city Farthen Dûr (see map), in the Beor Mountains. The elf’s, dwarfs, and the land Surda are enemies of the Empire too. In the beginning of the book, Eragon is walking around in the mess of dead bodies of the battle between dwarfs and the Varden against the Empire, that happened at the end of book one. Then suddenly Ajihad, the twins* and Murthag (the leader of the Varden, two good magicians, and a good friend of Eragon) are being attacked by Urgals who returned through the tunnels. Ajihad is being killed, and Murthag and the twins are captured. The daughter of Ajihad, Nasuada becomes the new leader of the Varden.
Later Eragon leaves Farthen Dûr with Arya and Orik (a elfish lady who can fight well too, and a dwarfish man who is a good friend of Eragon) and of course his dragon Saphira, for training in Ellesméra, the capitol of the elfish land/forest Du Weldervarden. So he first travels to Tarnag, from there he goes canoeing to Hedarth, than he goes on horse to the elfish village Ceris. There he meets the elves Lifaen, Edurna, Celdin, and Narí who take the company to Ellesméra. Here Eragon meets Oromis and his golden dragon Glaedr. They managed to escape from Galbatorix, and to flee to Ellesméra when Galbatorix killed the other riders. In the following weeks Oromis taught Eragon many things about history, magic, and fighting. During a big feast two elves transformed Eragon from a human to a half elf with magic, and made him a better warrior because elves are better warriors then humans. The next day Eragon heard that the Varden and Surda are going to have a great battle with the Empire. So he flies on the back of Saphira with Orik (who doesn’t like it at all) to Surda, waiting for the big battle, even bigger then the one in the first book.

Roran, the brother of Eragon, is still is in the village Carvahall (that’s where Eragon also came from) with the other villagers. There are constant attacks on the village, because the Empire wants to discover where Eragon went to. Finally Roran and the most of the villagers managed to escape to Narda, because they want to get to Surda for protection. When they‘re there, they take three boats to Teirm. They meet Jeod, who had helped Eragon too in book one. He proposed to take a huge boat, and then to go directly to Surda. So it happens that a boat with a whole village on it are going to the city Dauth in Surda.

Nasuada (the new leader of the Varden) planned to take the whole Varden to Surda, and when they arrive, to attack Galbatorix. But the Empire attacked Surda (after the Varden settled there) with a huge army!
When the war is going on for two days, Roran arrives with the ship, Eragon sees him, and is very happy of course. Then suddenly a red dragon with a rider appears, and it isn’t Galbatorix, because he has a black dragon. While Eragon is fighting the strange rider (and the strange rider is much stronger), he suddenly recognizes him! It’s Murthag! It appears that the twins (see the *) worked together with the empire, and that they brought the urgals to capture Murthag, and to kill Ajihad, and that Murthag is now under Galbatorix’s control! But he won’t kill Eragon this time, because he didn’t promise Galbatorix that in ancient language*. Than he went to Galbatorix again! Eragon is very shocked, but the twins are there too! And they are killing many soldiers of the Varden, and Surda! Secretly Roran took his hammer and killed the twins with much luck! Later the army of the Empire surrenders, and the book has a happy ending.

* If you promise something in ancient language, you must do it. Murthag had became Galbatorix his slave, because he had to promise him things.

The rest
The story isn’t realistic, because elves, dwarfs, dragons, magic, and so on, do not exist
The title means the fact that Eragon gets older in the book. It’s also a paragraph where Eragon has his battle with Murthag. In this battle he learns about the treason of his friend also about the fact that his friend cannot do anything else but be a traitor or die. This fact makes Eragon older and wiser.

My opinion
I think that the writer stole some facts from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But Eldest is a great book anyway. The big difference I think is that Eldest contains more about what the main persons thinks. Example: Nasuada was chosen to be the leader of the Varden because the people that had chosen her wanted a puppet, so they could have more power. I have read this book because my father gave my the first part as a present for Saint Nicholas. I liked it so much, that I bought the English version of Eldest in London while I was on holiday. The choice was easy to make for this book because I always wanted to read it anyway. (that explains too why I have chosen such a thick book).
The ending was very strange, because I never had expected that Murthag would return working for the Empire.

There are 1213 words in my book report.
