Expectations before reading
I'm sorry, but I never have expectations of a book before I start reading it. If you have, it's possible you get disappointed and that's not what I want.
Summary
This story is about Richard (the 'I' person) and Donald Shimoda. Donald first worked as a messiah. He had (and still has) strange powers. Because he didn't like all the crowds around him he decided to return to the 'real world'. He became a pilot.
Richard and Donald were both pilots who were selling plane trips for 3 dollar for 10 minutes. They met each other on a hayfield were they landed with their planes. They became friends.
Richard saw that Donald never had to refill the tank or clean his plane. He could also walk over water. Donald learned his powers to Richard. He said everyone could learn it (but almost no one knew). Donald learned Richard how to walk over water, swim in ground and walk through walls. A handbook helped Richard to start thinking like Donald did. In that handbook stood very much theories (for instance about the life). Donald said the whole world and everything else was a great illusion. Nothing was real.
On a day Donald is in a radio program. He was there to tell something about his life as a pilot. Instead of doing that he started telling about his ideas. He said 'No one can stop us from doing what we want to do' (so everyone could do everything whatever they wanted).
After (or meanwhile) that radio show Donald was starting to get enemies. People thought he was a danger for our world. Some time after that he was killed (shut down). First Richard didn't believe it. After that he grabbed the handbook. There was written: 'Everything in this book may be wrong'.
THE END
Main characters
Richard (probably Richard Bach) and Donald Shimoda.
Explanation of the title
Donald Shimoda said the whole world was an illusion (see summary).
Mark
I give this book an 8 because of all the theories who are in there. The book gives you a (new) way of thinking.
