what type / category of book / story is this?

This book is written more then 150 years ago. So I think it’s a classic story.

What century / movement is it from?

It’s in the 19th century, exactly in 1852.

What are the most important themes ?

The most important theme is the case jarndyce and jarndyce, that in the High Court of Chancery, has been going on for a long time.
And the secret of lady Dedlock.

Who are the main characters?

The most important person in the story is Ester Summerson. She is a beautiful girl, with black hair. She is about 20 years old.
Other main characters are:
· John jarndyce. He is an old man with grey hair and he is about 60 years old.
· Ada Clare. She has long blond, golden hair and a young face and she’s also about 20 years old.
· Richard Carstone. He is a young pretty man with dark hair.
· Lady Dedlock. She is about 40 years old and she has black hair

Where is the story located?

The persons are most of the time in Bleak House, but sometimes they travel to London. Because John Jardyce has invited Esther, Ada and Richard to stay with him in the Bleak House.

In what period is the story set?

It’s winter, because it is cold. Poor people die in the cold, like jo and later lady Dedlock.

Is it a good book to read? Why do you think so?
Yes, but sometimes I don’t understand what has happened, like why died Richard? And who was Nemo. I read on the internet that Nemo was the father of Esther and that Richard died because the big shock that he doesn’t get money from the case Jarndyce and Jarndyce. But it is written good because you read and read because you want to know what the secret of lady Dedlock is and is does she survive?? And in the back of the book is a glossary for the words you don’t know.

Would you like others to read it? Why?

Yes, because it is a good book to read and there are many bookreports on the internet. So you can read them and then you know how they have done it and you can read a summary and than it’s easy to make your own bookreport.

What is the most crucial passage, do you think?

That lady Dedlock tells Esther that she is her daugther and that she is her big secret.

Wich character do you dislike?

Mademoiselle Hortense. She is a servant-maid. She hates lady Dedlock and she says that lady Dedlock has killed mr. Bucket. But she has done that. But everybody thinks that lady Dedlock has killed him, because he knows her secret. And she runs away and died in the cold by the burial ground.

What is your favorite character in the story?

Esther, because she has an unhappy youth. She were bring up by her evel aunt and she always says: “your mother, Esther, was your disgrace and your are hers”.
Then she may stay by mr. Jarndyce and he is like a father to her. When she knows who her mother is, tells she him the story about her mother and he write her a letter. And in that letter he asks her to marry his. But as Allan asks her to mary her too she may mary Allan. She isn’t the beauty who she was, because she has been ill and her face isn’t very lovely anymore.

Compare it to the other books you have read. Any differences?

Yes, it’s thicker then the books I have read in Havo 3. but I haven’t read very much English books last year.
