Klasgenoten stonden vroeger als hongerige hyena's om Jorieke heen. Klaar om het jonge hertje aan te vallen dat nog scoubidoutouwtjes had.

Great Expectations,
Dickens, Charles
The original book is published in 1950; this version is published in 1999.

B) The contents of the book.
1.) The theme of the book is simply about the life of Pip.
2.) The action takes place in Kent (a place in England) and London.
3.) Pip lives first in a poor environment but he is chosen to be a gentleman and so becomes a rich kid. Pip is on the beginning low educated but when he grows up, he becomes a gentleman and well educated.
4.) The story takes place from 1950 to 1989.
5.) The story is completely made up by the author there isn’t any historical background or a situation that had really happened.
6.) The main character is Pip.
7.) The mutual relationships in the book are very weird; half of the book goes about the relationships between the main character and the rest of the characters. Mostly it is some kind of cold, un-loving relationship.
8.) You can’t really say that the main character a hero is. But he isn’t also an anti-hero, the story just happens to Pip, and he doesn’t really have a say in it. He doesn’t really do some brave things.
9.) I like the main character, because it is a sympathic character. And he wants the best for everyone.
10.) The climax of the story is, that the live Pip expected isn’t really the live he had thought of. But that it is some kind of a happy ending after all.
11.) The title says something of the book because, Pip has got great expectations of his live and being a gentleman, however things turned not the way he thought.
12.) Pip acts the way he does, because he was raised by doing so. In the book Pip chance from character he get more experiences of his live and get to know how to deal with it.

The form of the book.
1.) The book is a novel.
2.) The story is in mainly in Chronological form, but sometimes there are flashbacks of his youth (or what happened earlier in the book). The author starts right a way with the ‘action’ in the book.
3.) The book is written in non – prose language. He doesn’t use diary-fragments.
4.) The author uses sometimes flashes in time, (that in no time, 10 days go by).
5.) The book is written romantically because it is a novel and pip’s live isn’t a live you see everyday.
6.) The story is kind of tragic. The things that happens to Pip aren’t always to happy like the suddenly death of his sister.
7.) The description of the events are emphasised in the book.

The Author.
1.) Charles dickens was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812 and moved to London with his family when he was about two years old.
2.) The author could belong to a certain period in the literature, because you don’t really know when the story takes place.
3.) The author doesn’t represent a certain attitude, or he don’t let it really show in his book.
4.) I think he want to entertain the reader because the story is good to read for fun and not for something else.
5.) The book doesn’t resemble other books I’ve been reading.

Your opinion.
1.) I like the part that Pip comes for the first time by miss Havingsham.
2.) The settings of the action isn’t familiar to me.
3.) I liked the book because it wasn’t like others, there was a very strange story and subject, and I liked that.
