Stan Meyers is working at a night-time phone-in programme on the radio.
It’s a programme that people can call if they have any problems. It’s very popular and there are thousand of listeners. But because all the people who have problems come by Stan, he can’t get the problems out of his head after work. Stan wants to gif it up and starts another show, with jazz music. The programme director Hodges don’t understand why he want stop, it’s popular and has success. When Stan tells on the radio the he stops, he gets very disappointed people on the phone. When he’s at home, somebody calls him. It’s Graham Cook. He don’t want that Stan Meyers quit the show. He’s very angry and say that when Stan leavre, he will kill him and himself. Stan don’t take Graham serious and tells that he need somebody professional to help him. After this call, he goes to his work and does a night-show. When he’s at home again, Cook calls again. He wants to meet Stan. Stan will do it and that evening he meets Cook. It’s a small person with a white face and thin small lips. They have a conversation about leaving the night show and Cook is getting angry. He walks away and after that Stan wants to go to his work. But when he’s walking to de radio-station, he’s getting shot. He wake up in the hospital and a Inspector ask him questions. Stan tells about Cook and the Inspector wants to find him. The next day, the Inspector comes. They find Cook dead in his apartment. He has shot himself in his head. A few days later, he can go home. When he wants to walk in, Hodges is sitting there, with a revolver in his hands. He says to Stan that he was the one who killed Cook. Cook had shot Stan, but he hadn’t really wanted to do that. Hodges tells also that he hates Stan, and that’s why he has sad to Cook that he have to do everything. But when Cook had shot Stan, he was upset and would turn himself in by the police, and also Hodges. That was why Hodges killed Cook. Right on that moment, the police come and take Hodges away. They had find out that Cook hadn’t killed himself and when they heard Hodges talking, they now enough. Hodges has to be in prison for murder and attempted murder. On the end says the Inspector to Stan: ‘Do me a favour. Stop worrying about helping peoples with their problems.’ And Meyers answer: ‘In two weeks, Inspector, the only phone calls I’m going to take are request for records. If anybody calls with a problem, they’ve the wrong number’
