It was on a Saturday 20th of June 11.30 P.M. when Jesse’s deaf brother Bry was hit and killed by a car. Jesse tells the police he can’t remember the license plate nor what kind of car it really was. They had been on a party at Chloe Eichler’s house, on there way home (trailer park, supphire cove) when they had just crossed the highway. The next day Jesse wants to go surfing. He consoles his mum and heads for the beach. But he can’t relax and sees. Sowbug a drugadelict waiting for him. Hut he doesn’t want to talk at the place where the car had stopped to throw away Bry’s shoe. Jesse finds the shoe and thinks that fingerprints on it will help to find the “killer”. At the carpark everybody knows about Bry’s death. Jesse and his Mum do to collet his grandparents and Aunt Lila. Bry and his granddad had a very good relationship. They had the same hobby: building model planes or ships. Jesse hides Bry’s shoe in his closet and calls the officer Vale. At the beach Jesse sees a guy with a Honda at the place where Bry was hit. He sees the same guy at Bry’s funeral two-day’s later. At the funeral Jesse helps to carry Bry’s coffin. Afterwards he talks to officer Vale who tells him that there are still no results on the shoe. He asks her whether she had seen the guy too. She had Chloe asks Jesse to help her make pamflets to hang up along the highway asking for any eyewitness. Jesse goes to this friend Alexander where they try to make a drawing of the guy Jesse had seen at Bry’s funeral. When they meet Sowbug, the tramp, Jesse suspeets that sowbug must have been a witness at the accident. Jesse visits Chloe Eichler where they make twenty posters. They hang them up at several places at the Razzle-Dazzle video arcade the manager recognizes Chloe: “you where here with that bozo a whiz deaf kid” First he refurs to hang them up but when chloe tells him that he is the dead kid, the manager. At the laundry room Jesse talks to Miss Ernestine she and her sister had walked their dog Fluffy at about 11 o’clock that same night and were nearly hit by a drunk driver too. She remembers the black car, round white headlight and the round curved back. But it was heading the other direction. Was it the same? The reward “for Bry’s killer” is 15000 dollars now Jesse tells officer Valle about the tyremarks of the car Miss Ernestein had seen. Tomorrow is the 4th July then will look for that damned car, windbreaker again.Jesse thinks he has the “killer”, but he hasn’t the right one. This means that Jesse had to start all over again to find the drunk driver who killed Bry. Jesse was looking for Chloe. When he found here Chloe cut her foot with glass. They go to the Hospital. She got three stitches. Than he brought her home. Here parents going out and because she had be home alone that night they asked Jesse to stay whit her. Jesse and Chloe kissed. When he think about his brother he stops because he thinks it’s going to fast. She was sitting on the deck and watched the fireworks. When her parents came back Jesse went to his car to go home. When he was in his car he think about Chloe. Than he saw lights. He walks to the garage he sees a dark green Volvo with two white circles and a V on the back. First he thinks it was Chloe’s father who killed Bry. Jesse doesn’t have a witness. He thinks about Sowbug. He looked everywhere for him and after hours he found him in a pipe. Sowbug tells Jesse, the driver isn’t a man but a woman. She was wearing a chain around her ankle. Now knows Jesse that it was Chloe’s mom. Jesse did not sleep that night and he went surfing at in the early morning. When he came back his parents wasn’t home. They went to the church. Jesse is thinking should he tell first the police or his parent. After a while he called Chloe to tell her that he knows who killed Bry. Her mother picked up the phone and thanked him again for that he was with Chloe last night. Jesse asked Chloe that needed to talk whit her. He picked her up and they drove to a place by the beach. Jesse told her that her mother killed Bry and Chloe said no, but then she knew it was her mother that killed Bry. Ms.Eichler left the party when everybody thinks she was been resting. When she was driven home and found her house filled with kids. She turned the car to go to drink. On the way she killed Bry. The family Eichlers will be ruined financially and Chloe’s mom was going to jail. Jesse was working at Taco Bell now and he was dating Debbie Green. They were in Penguin’s Frozen Yoghurt one night when they saw Chloe come in with some guy. She told Jesse that her brother is going the army. Everybody was looking at Chloe and talk about her. The next day Jesse and his dad were going to fishing. There were things that Jesse needed to say to his dad. They talk about Bry, who Jesse can safe his brother but his dad said that it’s all right.
