-THE STORY
The story is about 2 little girls. The leading character, who's name is unknown, and Harriet. The girls are good friends. The story begins with a retrospect. Then the story is told chronological.
In the beginning, Harriet is away with her family in Wales. When she was alone, she met Mr. Biggs (also called: the Tsar). He's a married man, and much older than his wife. They talked a lot, and began to grow fond of each other. He kissed her. When Harriet came back from Wales, she told her the story about her and Mr. Biggs. Harriet, the I-person and Mr. Biggs went to do a lot of things together. At a fair, Mr. Biggs kissed her again. He loved her, and she loved him. She secretly came more and more at the Tsar's house. Mrs. Biggs did not know that most of the time. She's a very jealous woman, and did not want Harriet and the I-person to come in their house. But Mr. Biggs loved the I-person more than his wife. At the end of the story, he got drunk and killed his wife.
-THE LEADING CHARACTER
The leading character's name is unknown. I think she's a little bit shy, because she does everything that Harriet says or thinks. In the beginning, Harriet is away with her family in Wales. She missed Harriet so much, and she didn't know what to do in the holiday. She very much depends on Harriet. I think she doesn't have her own opinion. Now I'm going to read a sentence where the I-person is missing Harriet so much.
I also don't understand why she loved Mr Biggs so much. Mr biggs is an old man who's married a couple of years but she still loved him. Even he kissed her, and in the beginning she likes it.
-OTHER PERSONS
Other Persons are:
Harriet - she's a one-year-older friend of the I-person. They do a lot of things together, for example walking over the fields and talking about so many things. They meet each other every day. They also had a diary together. Properly it's Harriet's diary. She always told what the I-person had to write in the diary.
Mr Biggs - Mr Biggs (also called 'the Tsar') is an old man who's married to Mrs Biggs. Mrs Biggs is very jealous. She doesn't want that Harriet and the I-person to be at their house. Mr Biggs loved the I-person very much. He loved her more than his wife. He frequently is drunk. At the and of the story, he killed his wife.
Mrs Biggs - She's married with Mr Biggs. He hated Harriet and the I-person. At the end of the story Mr Biggs killed her.
Then you have Canon Dawson from the Church St Luke's, and Dodie from Bumpy field. They lived all in the neighbourhood of the lane down the sea.
-CHAPTERS
I like the chapter where the Tsar and the I-person are in the church. It's a very exciting chapter, because they go into the church, talking so much, and when they would like to go out of the church, they see that the door is locked. They can't open the door.
I also like the chapter where Harriet and the I-person go to the house of the Tsar and Mrs Biggs. They watch the couple. It's nice to read, because it's very exciting. They don't know that they are watching them. But alas, a bit later they knew what happened.
I don't like the chapter when the I-person and Harriet went to the fair with Frances, the I-persons sister. I think it was told very long-continued. And it was told very Boring.
-TITLE
The title is called 'Harriet Said' because The I person always listens to Harriet. If Harriet says that the I-person had to do something, she does it. She's always listening to Harriet.
-MY OPINION
I think it's a nice, and very exciting book to read. When I began to read, I really did't like the book, because the beginning was very strange. I don't know the first chapter was a retrospect. But when I read more of the story, I began to like it. I did not expect the ending to the story, when Mr Biggs killed his wife. It was a strange ending.
