: Tommy Grant, is a taxi driver in London. He works for TOP TAXIS. He is never too late.
Sam, he is the boss of TOP TAXIS. He has a wife and two children, Billy and Katy. He doesn’t like people who don’t listing to him.
Billy, he is the son of Sam. He knows that Tommy have to drive the son of a wealthy actress, Dino, through London. So he fakes that he is Dino.
• What is the central problem in the story?
Tommy has to drive the son of Gloria Brash, Dino. Then there is a boy who says he is Dino. But Dino doesn’t want to go to Buckingham Palace, Harrods and the British Museum. Dino wants to go to ‘The Video Palace’ and to ‘Big Burger Bar’.
• How is this problem resolved?
It appears that ‘Dino’ not the son is of Gloria Brash but he son of Sam, Billy.
• Wich characters do you like and wich do you dislike? Explain!
I like Billy, because he is very smart. He knows that Billy has to drive Dino so he pretends he is Dino.
Tommy is very stupid, because he doesn’t know that the boy he drives through London isn’t Dino.
• Where and when does this story take place?
The story takes place in London. I think it’s in the year 2000 or something.
• Short summary! (100 words)
Sam telephones Billy and he says that Billy has to drive the son of Gloria Brash. The boy called Dino. Billy has to be at The Ritz hotel at 9.00 o’clock. He is there fifteen minutes early at The Riz hotel. There is 50 pound at The Riz Hotel. Billy needs that money to pay the British Museum and a dinner in an expensive restaurant. There is a boy who says that he is Dino. Billy wants to go to Buckingham Palace, but Dino wants to go to the cinema. After the movie Dino is very hungry. Billy suggests to go to an expensive restaurant, but Dino wants to go to ‘Big Burger Bar’. At 4.30 stops the taxi in front of the
Ritz Hotel. Then he sees a beautiful women. She asks of he is the driver from TOP TAXIS. He comes in the hotel and he sees a boy. He is Dino and not the boy who was in the taxi. Then she asks her 50 pounds back. Tommy’s face goes white. He looks out of the window. His taxi is there, but ‘Dino’ is not. At 5.00 o’clock Billy walks in the house of Sam. Sam asks of he has a good day at school. Sam answers: “Yes, thanks, very good.”
• Would you recommend this book for use in the EFL classroom? Explain!
This is not a very difficult book. I would recommend it if you aren’t good in English. If you are good, this is a bit too easy I think.
