This book is an history roman. There are things and persons which really have lived then, like Bishop William Laud, King Charles I, Massachusetts Bay Colony. And the conflict between Laud and the Puritans is based on fact. But Morgan and the Cooper family, Eliot Venner like many others are fictitious.

In the end, when Drew Morgan gives his Bible to his son, itīs 1630. So the story plays in the 17e century.

The mighty hand of the Church of England says that the Puritans are bad, so many believe it; they had to, otherwise they will be pursued. But the Puritans really live with God. And Drew gets it through.

Drew Morgan, because he is the ībridgeī between Bishop Laud en the Puritans.
Christopher Matthews, because he loves Drew and really lives with God. He get Drew doubting about their devil practices.
Nell and Jenny Matthews, because Drew like them, so he canīt believe that they are bad.
Bishop Laud, because he affects Drew with his might on the Church of England.

When Drew is staying with Laud, heīs in London. But the greatest part of the story is in Edenford. In the end Drew lives in the New World to start a new life.

Included the epilogue the story is going about the whole life of Drew Morgan.

Itīs a very good book to read. The book teaches a lot about the Puritans and the Church of England. But the story goes also about love and so itīs not boring.

Not everyone should like this book. It has many pages. And the Dutch translation is much easier. But if you like reading itīs a very good book to read.

There is not one important passage, because the reforming of Drew went very slow. But when Christopher Matthews died on the executioner’s scaffold, Drew Morgan died to himself.

Eliot Venner is the worst person of the story. First you can have a quite a bit pity for him. But when he threatened Jenny so much, heīs really, really bad.

Nell Morgan is my favourite person, because sheīs a bit feministic, but also a Christian. And she is very good at writing. Yes, I like her.

This book is the first of circa ten parts. I read them in Dutch and you can compare them to this one, but this book is the best of all.

Summary
Drew Morgan meets Bishop Laud accidentally. Bishop Laud likes him and asks Drew to work for him. That means to look for Puritans. After a few exercises he has to infiltrate in Edenford. But he likes the daughters of the preacher and the preacher himself too. Drew likes Laud, but is doubting about his vision on Puritans. On a day Matthews is arrested. But not by Drew. Drew tries to let escape the preacher, but Matthews wants not. Then Drew gets Puritan too and he fly from the Bishop. Edenford has to fly also, because they canīt live with such a great sum of money to pay. Drew organises a fly to the New World. There itīs a hard life. Eliot marries Jenny, but he murders her too. And finally Nell admits that she loves Drew.
