When Jill and Eustace are at school, they open a door, which normally leads to a valley. Now they come into another world. When they are in that other world, Eustace falls from a cliff, but a lion, named Aslan, blows him safely to the land Narnia. Aslan gives Jill and Eustace a task. They most find the lost prince: Rillian. Jill is given a couple of clues, which she has to remember.
They meet an owl, named Glimfeather. He tells them the story, of how prince Rillian got lost. After a few days, they meet Puddleglum, a marshwiggle. He helps them, to find Rillian. On their journey, they meet a woman. She tells them, that the road they are following, leads to Harfang, were good giants live. They decide to go to Harfang, and there the giants welcome them. They spend the night there, and that night Jill Aslan comes to Jill, and asks her, if she wants to repeat the signs. But Jill doesn’t remember. Aslan tells her, that she must look outside. When Jill does that, she sees a ruined city (one of the signs). The next morning she tells it to Eustace and Puddleglum, and because of the dream, they make a plan of escape. When they have escaped, they come fall into a gap: Underworld. In Underworld, they meet Mullegudderum, a knight. He tells them, that every night he has a period of madness. Therefore, they tie him to a magic chair: the silver chair. They stay with him in the period of madness, and when he screams he’s prince Rillian, they untie him. Because of this, he remembers everything, also that he is the lost prince: Rillian.
The lady of the Underworld has returned, and when she sees that Rillian is loose, she tries to put a spell on them, but that doesn’t work. Than she turns into a snake. But the snake is killed by Rillian. When the snake was killed, it also was the end of the Underworld. They run, and try to find there way out. On their search, they find a hole. When they climb trough it, it appears to be Narnia.
Prince Rillian goes back to his old father, king Caspian, who dies a little later. Aslan sends Eustace and Jill back, with all the consequences.
