Choice: I chose this book because we had read another play of this writer and I liked it. Description of the main them: Big Daddy owns a cotton plantation. De whole family is getting ready for Big Daddy’s 65e birthday, but there isn’t a nice sphere. His son Brick is a former sportsman and after the dead of his best friend Skipper addicted to alcohol. He doesn’t sleep anymore with his wife “Maggie the cat” and is most of the time depressed. He refuses to talk about his problems. Maggie wants to have a baby with Brick. She tries everything she can to win his love back and to make a baby, but it is al no use. Brick isn’t easily led astray, he wants his wife to leave and meet another man, so she will be happy. But his family thinks he is gay. The friendship between Brick and Skipper made Maggie jealous and in revenge she sleeps with Skipper. Big Daddy is really ill, he is dying, he’s got cancer. But he and his wife “Big Mama” don’t know it. Doctor Baugh told him his illness wasn’t deadly, but he lied. Some members of the family would like to see Big Daddy die, so they would can take over his plantation. Brick’s brother Gooper and his wife Mae are being very nice to Big Daddy, so they are sure that they will get a piece of the plantation after he is dead, but Big Daddy loves Brick more. Maggie is doing everything she can to make sure that she and Brick will get the plantation instead off Gooper and Mae and there horrible children. Big Daddy is trying to improve his relation with Brick, but then he finds out why Brick is so depressed. Brick is indeed homosexual and he can’t handle Skippers dead. He even thinks it is his fault that Skippers is dead now. After a long conversation they both need to see the truth. Brick has to go along with his live and need to stop drinking and Big Daddy knows he is dying. When the whole family is together Maggie tells that she is pregnant of Brick’s baby. Big Mama is very happy with this news, but everybody knows that is not true. Story technique: The story is written like a play and the main characters are: - Maggie, Margaret - Brick - Big Daddy - Big Mama - Gooper, sometimes called Brother Man - Mae, sometimes called Sister Woman

The explanation of the title is: Maggie is a cat who holds on live, not the live she lives, but the live that she hoops will be. Maggie nickname is Cat and she is standing on a hot tin roof because she love Brick, but he doesn’t love her. My own opinion: I liked the story.
